House Majority Whip Shot

Thank the Lord that no one was killed.

One thing that stood out to me was the conflicting reports on the number of shots fired. Dozens of shots were fired, then "probably fifty or sixty shots", Sen. Rand Paul stated. Sen. Jeff Flake said, "fifty shots would be an understatement, I'm sure." "Dozens if not hundreds of shots fired", said Rep. Joe Barton.

We had a live, fused, and set high explosive 5" 54 cal 72 pound projectile get thrown to the bottom of the pit once, instead of getting rammed home into the breech. There were 5 of us there, and I'm sure if you could ask, there would be 5 stories on how close we all were to having the front of the ship blown off. So I don't fault or pay attention to any of that conflicting story stuff.

But this guy is a lousy shot. That many shots and only one hit ?

Thank God no one was killed. And they got him alive.

James T. Hodgkinson. Big Bernie Sanders leftist. Probably couldn't shoot well because of his righteous tears for the little man in his eyes.

Many, perhaps even most, of the shots were the security details returning fire.

“The only reason why any of us walked out of this thing, by the grace of God, one of the folks here (security detail traveling with Scalise) had a weapon to fire back and give us a moment to find cover. We were inside the backstop and if we didn’t have that cover by a brave person who stood up and took a shot themselves, we would not have gotten out of there and every one of us would have been hit — every single one of us,” said Bishop. “He was coming around the fence line and he was looking for all of us who had found cover in different spots. But if we didn’t have return fire right there, he would have come up to each one of us and shot us point-blank.”

The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is the presence of a good guy with a gun.

The attacker was wounded by the security detail which stopped his attack.

Yes, in stressful situations facts become flexible. Still, most of these representatives are lawyers and should be a bit more careful with their recalling of the facts.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Have you heard how far away he was? Rand Paul was saying the guys in the outfield were flat on the ground and appeared to not want to crawl in toward the infield area to assist Rep. Scalise.

Thank God no one was killed. And they got him alive.

Amen to that.

Libs will have another conniption fit with calls for gun control again.

Where was the President during this incident?
How was he involved?
Can he prove that his administration didn't have prior knowledge?

In a situation like that people panic and their minds are reacting emotionally, not tactically.

We can be sure that agents will collect all of the brass and its location and be able to determine how many shots were fired and who did what.

The shooter was reported as being near the 3B dugout. If Rep. Scalise was in the normal 2B-man position, maybe 40-50 yards away. Since the guy was apparently shooting offhand and probably full of adrenalin, I'd put him in the "mediocre" rather than "lousy" category. Once the LEOs began returning fire, his accuracy must have degraded immensely.

Another theory: He was an excellent shot and perhaps wanted only to wound people with appendage shots.

Personally : He was a poor shot.

.

Have you ever been in a firefight?

Focus narrows tremendously.

The facts aren't flexible, but viewpoints are. Lawyers are just people under fire. They're no better witness than anyone else. If 10 people are involved in a gunfight, it would be completely normal to get 10 different stories. Then, it's all put together to get to the "facts".

That's incredibly hard to do.

Personally : He was a poor shot.
Or he was hopped up on adrenaline and rage, knowing he was not likely to live more than a few minutes from the moment he started shooting - and it would probably be a painful death. Fortunately, few people are going to be able to shoot accurately in this situation. Those who can are highly trained and learn how to focus on only the essentials.

As reported by Sally Persons, The Washington Times, Thursday June 15, 2017

Rep. Mark Sanford, South Carolina Republican, said Mr. Trump was “partially” to blame for the hostile rhetoric that has consumed politics since the 2016 election, and which many analysts said helped set the stage for this week’s horrific baseball field attack on GOP lawmakers.
