Many, perhaps even most, of the shots were the security details returning fire. But this guy is a lousy shot. That many shots and only one hit ?
We had a live, fused, and set high explosive 5" 54 cal 72 pound projectile get thrown to the bottom of the pit once, instead of getting rammed home into the breach. There were 5 of us there, and I'm sure if you could ask, there would be 5 stories on how close we all were to having the front of the ship blown off. So I don't fault or pay attention to any of that conflicting story stuff.
But this guy is a lousy shot. That many shots and only one hit ?
Thank God no one was killed. And they got him alive.
5 were hit, one critically. That many shots and only one hit ?
Thank you for the correction. The Whip gets the big newsprint.5 were hit, one critically.
Interesting to me was that the shooter seemed to have first asked whether it was Republicans or Dems holding baseball practice ! Looked like he was gunning for republicans !
In a situation like that people panic and their minds are reacting emotionally, not tactically. One thing that stood out to me was the conflicting reports on the number of shots fired.
Another theory: He was an excellent shot and perhaps wanted only to wound people with appendage shots."Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Have you heard how far away he was? Rand Paul was saying the guys in the outfield were flat on the ground and appeared to not want to crawl in toward the infield area to assist Rep. Scalise."
The shooter was reported as being near the 3B dugout. If Rep. Scalise was in the normal 2B-man position, maybe 40-50 yards away. Since the guy was apparently shooting offhand and probably full of adrenalin, I'd put him in the "mediocre" rather than "lousy" category. Once the LEOs began returning fire, his accuracy must have degraded immensely.
Yes, in stressful situations facts become flexible. Still, most of these representatives are lawyers and should be a bit more careful with their recalling of the facts.
.
That's incredibly hard to do.Another theory: He was an excellent shot and perhaps wanted only to wound people with appendage shots.
Or he was hopped up on adrenaline and rage, knowing he was not likely to live more than a few minutes from the moment he started shooting - and it would probably be a painful death. Fortunately, few people are going to be able to shoot accurately in this situation. Those who can are highly trained and learn how to focus on only the essentials.Personally : He was a poor shot.
I know, I qualified expert my last year - never did pick up the ribbon. That's incredibly hard to do.

As reported by Sally Persons, The Washington Times, Thursday June 15, 2017Where was the President during this incident?
How was he involved?
Can he prove that his administration didn't have prior knowledge?
Gotta be a record for blame reversal! As reported by Sally Persons, The Washington Times, Thursday June 15, 2017
Rep. Mark Sanford, South Carolina Republican, said Mr. Trump was “partially” to blame for the hostile rhetoric that has consumed politics since the 2016 election, and which many analysts said helped set the stage for this week’s horrific baseball field attack on GOP lawmakers.
