In Buffalo, New York, 75 year old man breaking curfew and refusing to move back or go home, gets pushed by two officers and falls, hitting his head, bleeding from his head. The man is in the hospital in stable condition.

I was shocked seeing this. The two officers are suspended without pay. I'm trying to understand the officer's perspective. An analysis of this by former or current police is appreciated.

A quick look - it doesn't look like they pushed him that hard.

ABC Nightline - comes on at 0005 (EDT) - will be watching to see if that is mentioned

I looked at the video several times. Looks like the combination of a light push and a stumble. The man confronts the officers and even puts his right hand near the place of one officer's gun. I would need to know more about the whole context to evaluate it further.

    R - (I may call you "R" cant I?)
That stumble - do you think he "stumbled" on purpose? If so - then he is a good actor.

Yes, calling me "R" is just fine with me (just remember to call me in time for supper :) ).

I won't go beyond what I said. I can only say that in the video it looked to me like he stumbled after receiving a push away from the law enforcement officer.

If you look closely at the video the cop hardly pushed the guy. As the man was moving backward he stumbles (look at his legs) and he then falls down. That happened at exactly the same time the cop put forward his baton clenched in both hands. The video also shows the cop wanted to stop and help the guy, but his buddy quickly tells him to keep going. Another cop from the front line does stop, looks down and sees that the man is injured and says something in his radio. Not a case of wanton police brutality.

Exactly, the guy stumbles as he is moving backwards.

Men in their 70's don't have the best sense of balance. The cop pushed him hard and he fell down. It's inexcusable.

Maybe if it was a guy under the age of 50 he wouldn't have fallen.

I wonder why he was moving backwards? Could it be because he was pushed, hard, by a cop? Yep.

As so old a man, he shouldn't have been shoved. Manhandled for reaching down on the officer, yes. But shoving elderly people is dangerous. That is only a split second lapse of judgment though. The real problem is that they don't check on the man and only call in paramedics. One officer stops the other from checking on the guy.

The officer screen left appeared to act properly. I have no idea what the officer screen right thought justified that force. It may have been justified, but the video does not show the justification.

Look at the video, he WAS NOT pushed hard by the cop. The cop puts out his baton with both hands and barely touches the guy, and at the same time the old guy is moving backwards and then stumbles - look at his legs.

Serve and protect. Just stop. It’s getting embarrassing watching the attempts to defend this.

The one cop WANTS to stop and look at the guy but the other cop says to keep going. Then the other cop looks down and sees the old man is injured and says something into his radio, most likely calling for the medical people. I mean really, it is clear what happened on the video. By and large as he is moving backwards the old man stumbles just as the cop but out his baton. This was not a beat down, or a hard strike form the cop. Nope, that is not what happened here.
