There are two issues: 1) Translation. 2) Textual variants.
Over all the KJV wins more often.

I do, but sadly some of the brethren still fail to grasp that!

Would say that many who are recently saved would do much better reading the Esv or Nkjv then the Kjv, not due to it being bad, but due to hard to read with understanding!

NKJV has more in common with the KJV. Otherwise no. I was 14, new Christian and my only Bible was the KJV.

Would say many today have issues with their English Grammar, so would benefit from a modern version Bible!

Can you tell the singular pronouns from the plural in your modern Bible how many places?

Same as I can in everyday conversations, by context, etc.
Do you use "ye, thee" when speaking to co-workers, your friends, relatives, the waitress at a restaurant, etc?

I read Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in its original English & kept at it til I understood all of it, then, comparing it to a faithful modern-English translation. Same for Beowulf, but i had to use a modern translation to decipher its Old English completely. But I was able to read many tales of chivalry & of the knights of the Round Table in their old & Middle English after that! I enjoyed them immensely! (But I left off reading them to concentrate on sports & regular schoolwork, & only resumed reading them again after I was married & settled down.)

In our culture it is not need. But in the original texts it is. And God so speaks to us in His written word.

Few people use old Hebrew, Aramaic, or Koine Greek today, and translations should be in language current for the time when they are made.

The Hebrew, Atamaic and Koine Greek have the singular and plural pronouns. Those truths are lost in most modern translations. Not in the English KJV.
