Bodily resurrection of the dead is the great hope of the ages.

Job testified to his belief that after he would die, he would yet see God in his flesh:

Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

Long after the bodily resurrection and ascension of Christ, the apostle Paul testified that he had the hope of the resurrection of the dead:

Acts 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: 15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

To deny that there will be a future bodily resurrection of the dead is to reject the great hope toward God that the entire Bible sets before all people.

I denounce all denials of the future bodily resurrection of the dead as false and unbiblical teaching that every devoted believer should categorically reject.

Yes, it is sad indeed that the English word used to refer to our bodily redemption is mistranslated as "adoption" rather than reception of the full rights of being a child of God. There is a whole group of folks who want "adoption" to refer to our being born anew, to provide perverse support for being predestined to salvation. Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.

    Say what?

    Ephesians 1:3-14 [NASB]
3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly [places] in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, [that is,] the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of [God's own] possession, to the praise of His glory.

It would be great that this thread not turn into yet another discussion of election, predestination, etc. There is another forum to discuss those topics.

    Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

This passage shows what the death of Jesus brought about for many saints who had preceded Him in death. Prior to His bodily resurrection, these saints experienced a bodily resurrection. Their graves were opened. They came out of the graves.

They rose bodily prior to Jesus' rising bodily. Just as the work of Jesus on the Cross brought about their bodily resurrection, so someday His finished work will yet bring about from their graves the bodily resurrection of all saints who yet sleep in Him!

There will be a future bodily resurrection of the dead. The notion of a future resurrection that will consist of believers being raised in "spiritual, non-physical" bodies is unbiblical and has no merit.

1 Corinthians 15:12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

In this crucial passage, resurrection of the dead concerns the raising of the bodies of the dead. Christ rose bodily from the dead. He became the firstfruits of the multitudes who sleep in Him.

Just as Christ rose bodily from the dead, so those who sleep in Him will also rise bodily from the dead.

It is not talking about disembodied spirits rising from Hades.

Furthermore, to deny that there will be a future bodily resurrection of the dead is to deny that Christ has been raised bodily (1 Cor. 15:16). The two are inseparable--He is the firstfruits! You cannot have a bodily resurrection of Christ and a "spiritual, non-physical" resurrection of those who sleep in Him.

You are correct. Thanks for catching that mistake. Sorry for the error.

Unfortunately, I cannot correct that error any longer in the original post. I should have been more careful to check what I wrote after I had written it.

From time to time I have done Similarly. Their graves were ppened prior to Christ's resurrection.

That viewpoint has been seen as heresy, and rejected by historical Christianity!

It's disturbing to me that there were not many people who voiced strong opposition when that viewpoint was expressed recently in other threads.

Are you claiming the GWT is the resurrection of the church? Some do, as they lump both the church and the dead together, thus amillennialism.

The church should embrace the Cross as the physical resurrection of the church, those who are the body of Christ. The whole church is the firstfruits, that is the residents of Paradise. We on earth are still physically dead in corruptible bodies.

The verse says both for emphasis. What most cannot see, is that Christ took the firstfruits bodily to Paradise. The church is not dead in the ground nor sheol. The church is currently physically in a permanent incorruptible body now. It is an ongoing harvest of firstfruits fruits.

Once again the straight-up denial of Romans 8:23. Why anyone would claim to believe Calvinism is valid is beyond reason.

Some heresy was adopted by the historical church in exchange for the truth.

No, I do not believe that the GWT is the resurrection of the church. Nor do I believe that the Cross was the physical resurrection of the church. I do not find that teaching in the Bible.

Was Adam called out and placed in the Garden of Eden, Paradise? Genesis 2:15

15 Adonai, God, took the person and put him in the garden of ‘Eden to cultivate and care for it.

No, Adam was not "called out." God did put him in the garden.
