One last point in the space remaining. Although the delta variant has swept America, the variants have run up through the Greek letter “nu.” Now, they’re calling the new one “omicron.” But here’s something funny: There’s a Greek letter between nu and omicron: “Xi.” I wonder why they’re not using that one....

    https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/11/trying_to_make_sense_of_the_omicron_covid_variant.html

Currently, it’s hard to tell if it’s really something to worry about or if it’s a variation on the theme. It’s enough to know that world governments are reacting as if it’s Spring 2020 all over again, plus more pressure for vaccines, all of which is ironic considering there’s no evidence that anything we did last year or this year helped stop COVID’s rampage.

    ...

So far, as best as I can tell by looking at information from the World Health Organization’s page on South Africa, which has the most current data, while omicron is surging, deaths haven’t spiked...yet:

    ...

Once COVID finally hit America’s shores, we got lockdowns and mask mandates. We were told they would allow hospitals to prepare for the coming contagions but they became permanent fixtures and seem to have made no difference whatsoever to the virus’s spread. It seems that constantly reusing paper and cloth masks is voodoo medicine, not science. We also got vaccines that have an unusually high risk of side effects and that don’t stop people from catching, spreading, or dying from COVID.

Despite those facts, the powers that be are once again ready to reinstate 2020 (although, maybe, with Trump ousted from the White House, the Democrats will skip the race riots)—and again, we still know nothing about how deadly omicron is.

Omicron Variant: South African Medical Association Says New Variant Causes ‘mild Symptoms'
Angelique Coetzee, the chairwoman of the South African Medical Association, said that the new variant of the B.1.1.529 results in 'mild symptoms'

In an interesting development, Angelique Coetzee, the chairwoman of the South African Medical Association, has said that the new variant of the B.1.1.529, also known as the ‘Omicron variant’, results in “mild disease without prominent symptoms”, as per Sputnik.

"It presents mild disease with symptoms being sore muscles and tiredness for a day or two not feeling well. So far, we have detected that those infected do not suffer the loss of taste or smell. They might have a slight cough. There are no prominent symptoms. Of those infected some are currently being treated at home", Coetzee told the news agency.

The official also added that the hospitals are not yet overburdened with the patients carrying this variant. Coetzee said that the variant won’t affect people who are fully vaccinated but the situation “might be different” for the unvaccinated.

She also remarked that the medical association is looking into it and that they’ll get to know about this variant only after two weeks. “Yes, it is transmissible, but for now, as medical practitioners, we do not know why so much hype is being driven as we are still looking into it. We will only know after two to three weeks as there are some patients admitted and these are young people aged 40 and younger," she said.

The chairwoman also criticised the countries that have put a travel ban after learning about the new variant. Earlier on Saturday, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa held a formal discussion with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson seeking the removal of South Africa from the travel ban list. “I have put South Africa's case to Johnson which he understood very well,” he said at a press conference.

What do we know about the new Omicron variant till now?
The B.1.1.529 variant has been detected in several confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in South Africa where the Beta variant was detected. With genetic changes that affect virus characteristics such as transmissibility, disease severity, immune escape, diagnostic, the variant has been detected in at least 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa.

As per Tulio de Oliveira, PhD, Director of the Centre for Epidemic Response & innovation (CERI) in South Africa, the variant is now present in 90% of the cases in Gauteng. The epidemiological situation in South Africa has been characterised by three distinct peaks in reported cases, the WHO informed. At this time, as WHO studies the variant further, it is being speculated that the infections from B.1.1.529 variant have increased steeply as well as the cases, but they are coinciding with the Delta variant.

    The Conservative Treehouse writes:

Wow, 72 hours ago no one even heard the name Omicron variant. Now, in less than three days, a variant has been identified, global travel has been halted, states of emergency have been declared, and now we see a pharmaceutical company announcing the variant-specific vaccine trial that will begin in the U.S. in a few weeks. This government relationship with Big Pharma is certainly generating some fast action, eh?

All four cases were fully vaccinated in a country where only 6% are vaccinated. Gee…….what do those odds come to?? Who is spreading again?

    regenerating support for jab mandates.

4 Jan here ... slipped from 24 November. curious timing for a passenger delivery service, eh? ;)

world wide emergency whereby the only responsible action is to get everyone on the federal dole to get cv jabbed!

    yeah ... yeah ... that's the ticket!

The “symptoms” reported are the exact symptoms I experienced 16 months ago when I got the covid. If I remember correctly, they are the exact symptoms (minus loosing smell/taste) the overwhelming majority of people experienced.

So, apparently, this variant doesn’t cause a loss of smell or taste. Other than that, it appears to be the same.

    Lockdown!Emergency!Help!!

    peace to you

I just learned a colleague passed 13 days after his 2nd moderna shot. sudden onset pulmonary embolism.

he was mid 50s. fitter than fit. rarely sick though I think it was reported he had covid last summer, missed one trip.

Saturday he started having pressure in his chest. before the end of the day, he was gone.

It's mild because most of South Africa has had Covid. Wait till it hits the highly vaxed Countries and wreaks havoc.

Odd claim. We know varients will arise (sars-cov-2 is a virus) and we know varients will most likely come out of an "unvaccinated" population. WHO didn't come up with the varient.

@Reynolds posted about having covid with cold like symptoms and then getting the Delta varient which he said was much worse.

Why would we not expect other varients?

You are making everything concerning the virus political.

A guy I grew up with died about a week after second shot from a blood clot. First blood clot he ever had in his life.
My healthy as a horse father in law started having mini strokes about a week after his second jab. He is now about worthless.
One of our Sunday School teachers at Church had a stroke few days after second jab. Now he is about crazy as a bed bug.
I still do not personally know anyone under 70 who has died of Covid.

I think the point is the timing. Resistance building in the move to expand the cv vaxes in the little kids ... so ... poof. A variant which infects little kids.

There are many credentialed research physicians who have demonstrated the rate of mutation's expanding has been due to the effect of the cv vaxes ... at least until the transformer title (omicron) these mutations were found before the cv vax was deployed ... but it wasn't until this year these mutations had any "traction."

So ... there's a bit of bias showing in your statement ~"It's cause of the non-cv-vaxed." No it isn't.

They have made it political. When they say follow the science it’s a political statement to shut you down and end debate. That’s not science it’s politics. When they accuse us of intentionally posting false news on this subject and therefore calling our posts evil that is for the purpose of demonizing those with whom they disagree and it’s political not honest discussion.

Of course they can accuse others of intentionally posting false information and that’s fine to do on this board. Never mind that they have basically just said you lied. Of course they can’t know what your intentions are they just need an excuse to demonize you.

point out that they have misrepresented what you said and yet they stand their ground on their misrepresentation and you get called out for calling them a liar.

Seems to be exactly what has happened here. Bearing false witness is acceptable. Calling out false witness is not permitted.
Seems like the prevailing norms of the world are prevailing over Christian commands here. But what do I know? I am just a minion.

If I remember correctly the Dekta varient was first observed in Dec 2019 or Jan 2020, but was not an issue until it spread to other countries. I'm not sure that timing has anything to do with it.

The 3 varients that have spread are from primarily unvaccinated populations (Africa, Columbia, and....Brazil?). We're vaccinations responsible for these varients we would expect them to come from vaccinated populations (the UK, perhaps the US, etc).

That said, I do believe timing has something to do with how politicians use the virus and varients to serve their agendas.
