3 Million Illegal Aliens to Flood the U.S. This Year

So, which ones should have checks, and how would you determine who they are?

I don't think background checks are going to do any good. Because most people have nothing bad in their backgrounds. The people we would have to worry about, if we started doing background checks on everyone, would just start using fake ids (if they aren't already). Whether we like it or not, some bad people are going to get into this country. If you stop and think about it though, not very many in the long run have...

Nice-the eye roll- I thought that was just a teenager thing! Well, all I want to say in response is that if terrorists want to get in bad enough they will. If we start thumbprinting everyone, they will find a way around it.

Just because enforcing a law may not be 100% is no reason not to enforce a law, such as the immigration laws. Just because some people commit murder doesn't mean we shouldn't enforce the laws against murdering.

We should shut down our borders and not let anyone in until we find out who the 10 million illegal aliens are who are already in our country and what they are up to, and then ship them out. Period. It should have been done September 12, 2001.

The very FIRST thing GW Bush will do if re-elected will be to grant blanket amnesty to all 10 million - reward them for breaking the law. The only reason he held off this long was because he was running for a second term.

Granting amnesty as a reward to lawbreakers is not being patriotic, no matter who does it.

Refusing to defend and protect our borders (as mandated by the US Constitution), is not patriotic and is in conflict with the Oath of Office.

But, I beat the same old drum - there are few patriots in Washington DC, only greedy politicians bent on turning America into a third world country and redistributing wealth - everyone's except their own, of course.

Shutting down the borders is WAY too drastic! That would mean that not only could no one get in (tourists coming to America, foreign exchange students, people coming over legally to work), but no one could get out (no vacations, no business trips, no journalism). Not to mention there would be no international trade. That would wreck the U.S. economy so bad!!!!

International trade and immigration control are two separate issues.

Drastic measures should have been taken in drastic times if we were really fighting a war on terror, which we aren't. It's a delusion the American sheeple have bought in to.

It is still important to have some border controls. Right now, they check to see what country you are from and run a licsence plate check on your car. These are really helpful as far as criminal activity is concerned. And it's the bare minimum of what is done. Whatever patrols we should have needs to be in moderation, not too extreme one way (abolish passports, etc) but not too extreme the other way either (background checks or closing all borders).

Passports and baggage checks don't do alot of good in the remote mountains, deserts, and Americans backyards that remain unguarded and wide open.

Is it still proper (or legal) to say "illegals"? It's industrious migrant workers or something like that thats PC now isn't it?

I agree. A major problem is nopt the lack of innigrations laws, but the lack of enforcement.

Not quite. Most migrant workers are here legally, on legitimate work visas. Here in Southern California, this is one area where immigration laws are being enforced (I can't speak for the rest of the US, though).

We sholdn't assume that every migrant worker is here illegally.

Your quite right Johnv, we shouldn't assume that every migrant worker is here illegally. But, I think it's safe to assume that all illegal aliens are here illegally and giving them respectable labels doesn't change the fact that they broke our laws to come here and we shouldn't pander to law breakers.

That was my point, not well made perhaps.
