Very interesting article. My reaction is: American pastors and believers, why don't you actually visit your missionaries and fields and find out for yourselves what is happening out there? This is more possible than ever. Our missions pastor makes multiple trips every year to various fields, and many of our college students have been to the same countries: Cameroon, India, Philippines, Peru, etc., etc.

As someone who has been to India with one of these in country missionaries, I have preached in 11 villages in the remotest of areas, and I taught at the bible college. I still remain in contact with that in country missionary to this day. With this experience in mind I find the op a disappointment. My disappointment is not in the missions work, the numbers, the support of churches, or the money that goes into that country. No, my disappointment is in the inflammatory op that paints with a broad brush, and in turn maligns such work as I have seen. Such articles are irresponsible and are likely to have the effect that people would refuse to support any work in that country.

Advising caution of whom you support, recommending doctrinal accountability and periodical checks, considering partnering with faithful national leaders, and speaking of the need to better understand the culture hardly seems irresponsible to me.

I agree. "Know them that labour among you."
