Shannon,
If God judged us for slavery then He will also have to judge us for abortion and other things.
He may yet do so.

The real problem with the War of Nurtheren Agression was the reconstruction time. both sides continued the partisan and bitter politics instead of doing what the warriors did and bury the hatchet.
Clearly the Federal government used the War, righteous or not, to wield tremendous power over the states, and the unfortunate consequences that have followed still plauge our country today.
I think the drastic measures used by Lincoln may have been necessary, but should have been given solid, unimpeachable sunset provisions. The Income Tax, very questionable property rights laws, and near Marshal Law powers for the U.S. Military were allowed that would have been thrown off by revolution by most of our founding fathers were the hopefully unintended consequences of the war.
There should have been apologies all around, there was plenty of blame to spread around. If you look at the fighting men on both sides, fighting their own contrymen, if not family and friends, I don't know if there is a way to balance the positive and negative results of the war. It really was a Lose-Lose in many ways. -
I no longer believe we are one nation under God. We have allowed too many anti-God values and religions, mainly that of secular humanism, to take over. Generations of unborn have been slaughtered, pornography, murder, greed, swapping clubs, homosexuality, and all manner of evil has overtaken our basic institutions, including some in the Church. No, sadly, we are no longer one nation "under God" and soon, we will see our "one nation" be destroyed from within. If I didn't know Jesus Christ was coming soon to set things right, I would despair. -
I agree Lady Eagle we are no longer "one nation under God" we can't even agree which God and now we won't even allow the phrase in our pledge. We are far from it. Shannon

I'm ready to let these anti-God, pro-abortion/homos etc have this world without the "corrupting" influence of Christianity and just see how far they get before a total destruction of the present freedom laden USA. -
After 9/11, I happened to visit a Hispanic site that is quite critical of most things Anglo. There was a post showing a very fierce looking eagle. And there was a message for Osama with it.
I will not repeat the message, since there are likely those here who can understand Spanish.
The nation came together on 9/12. That's how we are. -
Good post, Galatian.
We came together after the recent floods in the southern states too.
Even from our little town, many volunteers went down to help out (including a convoy of semis, and firetrucks, with emergency supplies).
One family from Lincoln just left on their 5th trip to New Orleans...
We pull together when there is a real need. Too bad we bicker the rest of the time.
God works in mysterious ways. Ya think He knows that we need tragedies to bring us together and stop the fussin' and fightin'????
How sad... -

That, too, is how we are.
