I think the comment should have been ignored! There were plenty of comments of some substance to be addressed.

I don't care if he meant it as a slam. It should have been ignored. I don't btw think he meant anything by it.

Same should be true for McCain's comment also. I do not consider either's comment a problem. It is true, we could put lipstick on a man but he would still be a man.

I don't think the lipstick on a pig comment had anything to do with man verses woman. "You put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig" is just one of those sayings that implies dressing up something to make it look like something it's not.

It could apply to a woman, a man, or an idea. I think it has to do with politicians making snappy remarks hoping they would be read as being witty and quick on the feet. In this case it may have back fired - maybe it wasn't on the teleprompter - and so the McCain camp sees an opportunity to give some back to the Obama folks.

If it was directed at Palin it's no more offensive than any similar idiom or just plain old saying "You're saying one thing but you really stand for something else." but just not as colorful. I don't like Obama one little bit but I think making this comment out to be sexist isn't right. We've become much too sensitive about these things to the point that any saying with a feminine gender, dark color, or whatever is viewed as sexist or racist when in its natural venue it is not.

All of it is a bit silly and detracts from any meaningful exchange but that's the game that people play when they're seeking to win a popularity contest. On the other hand it's so fitting that it hit the Democrats this time.

Obama said to be such a wonderful orator - something I don't buy - may well be a wolf in sheep's clothing - a Biblical idiom of similar meaning to that of the pig - as are so many of the politicians who promise everything but then do something entirely different.

Palin is a strong enough candidate to deal with this without drawing back into a defensive posture suggesting her womanhood has been offended by the comment. She should just blow it off and move on because no one that maters is going to associate her accordingly. Let the news media wallow in the silliness of our times. She should fire back with some meaningful comments about issues that people need to consider when voting.

I can't for the life of me reconcile such a position as Ken holds. How can you support a guy like Obama who supports abortion, but disdain a woman who supports shooting wolves, calling her a dispicable human being? It makes zero logical sense. Is Obama not a despicable human being for his support of killing babies??

Obama's problem here is that he was the one that said it - not a surrogate.

If anyone else had said this, Obama could take the high road and tell us that he won't stand for anyone associated with his campaign to act like this. He could fire them - throw them under the bus - use them as proof that he is a different type of politician.

It's a shame that he can't even bring himself to offer the pathetic usual "I'm sorry that you were offended" type of apology that puts the responsiblity of the offense on the shoulders of the offended one.

Yeah? Well, if you do put lipstick on a pig, and it's not still a pig, then what is it?

It would have been, perhaps, if Hillary had recently stated she wears it ?

    Oink, oink, oh sorry!

It was a bad choice of words by Obama which is being blown out of proportion by many McCain/Palin supporters, thats all.

Are you offended that McCain used the same expression on Sept. 10th?

There is no reference at all to Sarah Palin in the context of what Barack Obama said. So in my final post in the Politics Forum, here is the truth that anyone who cares about the truth can hear for himself/herself:

Seems to me (didn't watch the link, but saw it on TV) that Obama wasn't referring to Mrs Palin when he made the comment.

    No. Different context.

Sara Palin's line in her acceptance speech concerning lipstick provides Obama with an unfortunate co-incidence. I don't think he was calling her a pig. He was just stepping into it again. I don't think that he was thinking - just talking off the top of his head.

Lack of an inner-censor is not a good quality in a President.

Why do you assume that I was offended by this? I think that it's somewhat funny that he stuck his foot in his mouth again.

But like I said - his problem is that he said it - not a surrogate.

As much as it pains me to do so, I must admit that I wholeheartedly agree with DF on this one.

Did he mean to insult the Gov.? Only BHO and God know for sure, but in the context in which it was used I think not. I've heard this exact phrase used for years in exactly the context that BHO used it.

C'mon folks, there are enough real issues to oppose Obama on without mimicking the other side on such fluff.

This obsession with BHO's comment is going to come back to bite the R's in the butt if they don't back off real quick.

know it's not really this thread but with the lipstick pig remark here is a conspiracy thought. Freudian slip? Is that three. Barak said he visited 57 states (there are 57 islamic states) The then said my muslim faith at which George corrected him and then put lipstick on a pig remark towards Palin (pig is abhorant to muslims) Just a thought.

Obama was refering to Palin, but I heard that the crowd was laughing because maybe they knew from experience that kissing a pig with lipstick was no different than kissing a pig without lipstick.

Actually Pastor I disagree, I have been seeing Obama trying to explain his plans to address the issues pressing to America. The last two days he has spent covering his education program. He is the only one actually telling the nuts and bolts of his plan.

Again, this comment shows complete bias so it's not worth responding but I will say the Palin is being attacked again defense is running real thin. She will eventually have to speak to America and let us hear her views and plans for taking this country forward. I am disappointed for anyone high on her bandwagon because she hasn't told us anything about her plans. Her support is purely emotional.

It appears to me that Obama is at least trying to tell us what his plans are. It seems his attempts to explain his vision are being overshadowed with days like today's lip stick controversy. I think American should send a message to both sides, we don't care what you think is sexist and what you feel is unfair, stop slinging mud and tell us where you stand on the issues... As long as we tolerate this mud slinging style of campaign we'll never get what we deserve.

That's the point Rev, why don't we demand more?

I haven't seen that, but then I am not easily persuaded by empty rhetoric.

The comment was out of line. Surely you, with all your bias, can recognize that. Obama talks of wanting to raise the dialogue and turn away from dirty politics, but then goes and does this. If he didn't know what he was doing, he is out of touch and doesn't think before he speaks, and is therefore unfit for office. If he did know, then he is still unfit for office.

I am not on her bandwagon. Overall, I think she is a poor choice that makes a horrible candidate marginally better. As I have said, the good thing from McCain/Palin is that they are running against the two biggest bozos in modern presidential politics.

But more to the point, why does Palin have to speak about her ideas of moving the country forward? She is a VP candidate. It is her job to talk about McCain's plans for moving the country forward. It seems that civics has fallen on hard times here.

You are on autopilot here, rushing to the defense of Obama no matter what he does. I almost think if he killed his mother you would find a reason why it was a good thing. I almost think that, but I still maintain some faith. But seriously, you guys talk about the McCain supporters blind loyalty. You guys are just as bad if not worse.
