Good evening -
Today we read in Judges three of the four chapters dealing with probably the most well known judge, Samson. Any kid who's ever been through Sunday School knows this story. I've always liked this tale. To me, Samson is like the first super hero. He doesn't need an army or any special devices, he just arrogantly goes against the Philistines with his own brute strength and cocky attitude. Notice how he repays the bet concerning his riddle. He gives them their thirty pieces of raiment but he kills thirty of their people to acquire it.
In Mark, I would like to point out that verses 7:3-4 is clear evidence that this Gospel was written for gentiles. The explanation of Jewish custom and language emerges repeatedly in this Book.
In 1Corinthians we see Paul answering another of the Corinthian church members' questions, this time on the topic of Spiritual gifts. These gifts originate from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and they are used to edify the Body. I will not go into my views on the interpretation of exactly how these gifts manifest themselves in this forum, but I will say that later in chapter 14, Paul instructs that these gifts are to be used to build up the church, not for a spectacle.
May God bless you
