I very much like Alexander Scourby's rendition of the KJV. It is especially helpful in understanding the epistles, it is amazing how clear he can make some of Paul's never ending sentences! Things are fine now, but I remember when I first started reading the KJV a lot of the epistles were tough going.
I have the Zondervan dramatized KJV. It's OK, but a little cheesy and sometimes the way things are said doesn't really line up with the meaning of the text, IMO.
In the past I listened to Zondervan's dramatized NIV, which is better performed than the KJV, I think.
A pet peeve: Please, Please don't overexaggerate Satan to make him sound like a cartoon character! In some of these productions anytime Satan speaks my whole family bursts out laughing, which isn't really a good thing. -
I have an NIV NT on tape in the car. It reads really well (not accurate, but nice!!!).
That said, the reader RACES through the text and much of the power and impact of the Word is lost. Like a mother reading a book "blah blah blad" just because you're supposed to read to a child.
I was disappointed.
New car will have a cd player, not cassette. Hmm. -

Of the ones I've heard, Max McLean's Listener Bible (entire Bible in NIV or NT only in ESV) is my personal favorite.

Has anyone heard James Earl Jones's KJV rendition? Can you imagine Darth Vader saying:
2Th 1:8
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: -
