Roger Moran of the SBC Executive Board made the comments below on April 24 in North Carolina......your thoughts?
Toward the end of his speech, Moran changed the subject. He said conservatives are losing their "biblical understanding of the seriousness of sin."
"When conservative, Bible-believing Southern Baptists can sing along with secular music that trivializes and glorifies sin, then for what do we tell people Christ died and shed his blood?" he asked. "When conservative, Bible-believing Southern Baptists can sit in front of a television and sit in a movie theater and constantly feed on the godless wickedness of this world, then have we not indeed forgotten that whichever nature we nurture will become dominant in our lives? And have we forgotten that when we feed the flesh it grows stronger?"
Moran said everything that God expects from Christians flows from holiness.
"Evangelism and the making of disciples, that hard work of making disciples, is not the natural outgrowth of carnal Christianity even if our doctrine is sound," he said. Moran said conservative Southern Baptists need to realize that "boldly proclaiming the truth of God's word is only half the equation."
"We are in desperate need of a passion and a commitment to live the truth that matches or even surpasses our passion for preaching," he said.
Baptists not holy?

Yep, going to the theatre and listening to John Denver are the first sure signs of a Godless lifestyle
I would not use those issues as a watershed on whether Baptists are holy.
I have much greater concerns about the overall theology and practice of Baptists than whether they go see the Piglet Movie at the Theatre, and listen to John Denver (Sorry Dr. Bob :D )
We have a rampant movement at least around here to encourage the KJVO movement, easy believism, pseudo-judaisim, destroying the sovereignty of God, ignoring the clear teaching of scripture, and making church into an exclusivist club. Those concern me much more that whether some church members go to the show or listen to secular music -
Okay, that's it. SuperDave gets banned for life from my good graces for attacking that paragon of virtue (and closet Baptist perhaps?) John Denver!
Comon', sing along with me that great hymn of the faith . .
"Country roads, take me home (obvious reference to heaven)
To the place I belong (because I'm elect) . . .
I almost FEEL his presence as I hum along -
Wait a minute. How did John Deutschendorf get dragged into this?
Besides, "Took Two Shots, Got No Ducks" was his best song. Ought to appeal to all those hunters out there.
Is this a record for quickest hijacking? -
"Cold, cold day" . . yep, hijacking in progress. Call the sky marshalls. Watch for pilots with firearms!
BTW, I'd fuss with you about his best. "Polka dots and moonbeams" is righteous! -
Wasn't "Matthew" one of his songs?
-
Yes; originally on the "Back Home Again" album.
-
John Denver, The Muppets, Grandma's Feather Bed~now you're cooking!
-
Ddid everyone see Denver's last made for telly picture. The theme song there was the last to be recorded and some people are trying to get it copied to a saleable cd. I would love to have that. It was about Alaska.
Cheers,
Jim -
Didn't see it, Jim. As I understand it, he played an airplane pilot in Alaska in "Higher Ground." Apparently the CD is only available used or from private stashes at steep prices.
-
Stephen, the picture was about Alaska and as I understand it, the song was never taped beyond the picture and there was some legal tieup why the song can't be copied to a cd......don't quote me. It was some time ago and I don't remember all the details. The people in Alaska were quite impressed.
I just made a quick check at this site and there it is,,the original PBS picture
http://www.naturemusic.com/ $34.00US

REVIEW OF ALBUM -
BTW, did you know he briefly studied architecture at Texas Tech before moving to LA to get into the music business?
Hmm. The sky marshals haven't come out yet. -
If I keep waiting, they might send me a free copy..
I wasn't aware he studied architecture. That is interesting........I still can't sing.......
Cheers,

In chasing a relative rabbit, I'm all for before/after church socials but sometimes wonder if our play overshadows our pray - with the younger ones especially. I can think of several of our young people who would not attend worship at all if not for the "fellowshipping." This generally includes a trip to McD's a couple times a week following worship services. I've heard them state to each other on more than one occassion, "I'm just on my way to McDonalds ..."
Scarey, isn't it? We're planting the seeds - providing transportation too. I'm just so thankful that God is in control!
Bring them in, bring them in.
Bring them in from the fields of sin ...

PJ </font>[/QUOTE]We had a video last night after our fellowship meal at church. The subject was evangelism. My wife overheard a member saying, "This is Boring."
IF YOU ASK ME WE HAVE A LOT OF UNSAVED, UNHOLY FOLKS ON OUR CHURCH ROLLS! -
By the way, is it true that West Virginia is called "Almost Heaven" because it is "Almost Maryland"? (Source: My friends from MD )
(Edited to be serious about original topic...)
Nine times in Deuteronomy God told His people they must "purge the evil from among you (NIV)" "put away evil (KJV)"
The same God who said "Be holy, for I am holy" in the O.T. repeats it in the N.T. It is not optional.
So to summarise my thoughts on KPBAP's original post: "Amen!"
Pete
