Dr. Bob posted the thread on recommended books for those starting out in the ministry. (I started a list) My husband finally surrendered Nov 24 to a call he's been hearing for 4 years. (GLORY!!!)
Can anyone recommend books for the wife to help with her "training", Biblical and practical?

;) Hello?

Hello????

Is nobody going to help me out here??

I am neither a preacher(boy) or a wife. Many seminary's offer low cost or free materials for the future preachers wife.

As much as is possible, you should study exactly what he is. Then, you two need to talk about what you are learning and search the Scriptures together. You would be a great help if you both share the same beliefs and philosophies.

For your husband:
C. H. Spurgeon, LECTURES TO MY STUDENTS
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, PREACHING AND PREACHERS
Charles Bridges, THE CHRISTIAN MINISTRY
John MacArthur, EXPOSITORY PREACHING
John Piper, BROTHERS, WE ARE NOT PROFESSIONALS
For both of you:
1 & 2 TIMOTHY, TITUS
John Piper, DESIRING GOD
Douglas Wilson, REFORMING MARRIAGE
John MacArthur, BIBLICAL COUNSELING
Jay Adams, COMPETENT TO COUNSEL
That's a fair start....

Hi,Gayla....
I will also recommend:
*The Excellent Wife* by Martha Peace
*Biblical Womanhood in the Home* by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
*The Legacy of Sovereign Joy* by John Piper
*Jonathan and Sarah:An Uncommon Union* by Edna Gerstner,Soli Deo Gloria
These are great resources for any wife, but I think a wife in the ministry would greatly be encouraged and helped with these!
Happy reading! I think a lot of these can be found at www.timelesstexts.com

Oh,and one more that is fabulous!
Susan Hunt's *Your Home:A Place of Grace*
I think that is all for now! ;)
Great List,Rev G!!!!!
A quick question,Rev G...could you tell me a little about Doug Wilson's Reformed Marriage? I recently bought Doug Wilson's *Her Hand in Marriage* for my husband...since we are headed down the courtship route for our daughters(in the distant future,I might add) I,also, like Doug Phillips thoughts on marriage and family. We have a couple of his audio's.(www.visionforum.com)

"Home Sweet Fishbowl" (no idea on author) was good but probably now outdated for pastor's wife
The Richest Lady in Town (Landorf) is also good.
And Bjorn's "Papa's Wife" and "Papa's Daughter" are the memoirs of a preacher's wife from Scandinavia come to the US a century ago. Great read and inspiring. (I cry easily)
