I am all for engaging with the Muslim world but this goes too far. Also, from the article it appears that the Congress is just as bad as the administration:
"The administration policy has been supported by the Democratic-controlled Congress. On April 7, House leaders, including Democratic whip Rep. Steny Hoyer, attended a reception by the U.S. embassy in Cairo that included Brotherhood deputies. The reception took place at the ambassador's residence."
I have said it before and will say it again, This President has done more to advance the cause of islam than any other president in the history of our nation.
Pre- and post-09/11.
We've waged a "war on" illiteracy and got more illiteracy
as a result, a "war on" drugs and got more and worse drugs as a result and so on and on. Everytime we declare "war on" something we seem to get more of it not less. Now we've declared (UN/congressional authorization) "war on" terrorism...it should come as no surprise that we'll see more radicals and extremists as a result.
But look at the bright side, because of all these failed "war on" *_____*, the government/Military Industrial Complex (govcorp Inc.) and the militarized police have greatly increased their wealth (through taxpayer money) power and control over our domestic population. That's a plus for somebody at least.
Courting the Muslim Brotherhood is how you keep a phony war on terrorism from becoming a real war on terrorism.
Syria tried to help the United States as they shared a common enemy, the Muslim Brotherhood who were/are allied with Al Qaeda. Syria is now the enemy of the United States, the Muslim Brotherhood is a friend and Al Qaeda is an enemy. Saudi Arabia provided the bulk of the individuals responsible for 9/11 and are the primary financiers for the Muslim Brotherhood, yet Saudi Arabia is an ally. Fatah is an Islamic terrorist group that is alleged to be inspired by Al Qaeda but since they are opposed to Hamas the United States supports Fatah. The scorecard will likely change but as of today this is how I understand United States support for or against "terror".
United States War on Terror Scorecard
Osama Bin Laden - Former Ally, now enemy
Al Qaeda - Former ally, now enemy
Syria - Enemy (even though they stand opposed to Muslim Brotherhood terrorists)
Iran - Former ally, now enemy (yet we have taken out Iran's two chief rivals in the Taliban and Saddam Hussein and have benefited Iran greatly in the process)
Muslim Brotherhood - Ally (regardless of their alliance with Al Qaeda) We don't negotiate with terrorists but we will talk with 'em
Pakistan - Ally, Even though they are a non-democratic state led by a military despot (I guess Pakistanis do not rate "freedom")
Iraq - Former ally when they were fighting against past ally then enemy, Iran. Then enemy under Saddam even though he was formerly on CIA payroll. Now that they have been regime changed they are ally but they're populace is keen on killing U.S. Soldiers sooo tough call.
Saddam Hussein - Ally, then enemy, then dead enemy
Hamas - Enemy
Fatah - Ally
With the above confusion, only one conclusion remains evident...
U.S. Constitution - Primary enemy of U.S. leadership
