In closing a previous thread, Lady Eagle posted this, which I believe to be only half right:

I am closing this thread. This is the news and current events forum and this topic is not news nor is it a current event. Please remember to post in appropriate forums and that personal attacks are not permitted against other members. Thanks for your cooperation.

Lady Eagle,

I completely disagree with the part of this response, I have embolded. The MN Senatorial election is very much both news, and a current event, even if it is not getting a lot of press currently, for no other reason than that it has not been finally settled, nor as of yet has a Senator been seated, from that state.

I do agree with the premise that no personal attacks are necessary against any other BB member, however, for the half that I do agree with.

I would simultaneously argue that the use of a "thumbs up" smilie by the original poster on the subject, regarding a story in a decidedly opinionated internet publication, that ran it, amounts to gloating over what the OP hopes is the final outcome of that election, which is from a state in which he does not reside, and apparently has never resided.

http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=57654

I am amazed that the poster who seemingly wants to appear knowledgable on this issue, apparently was unaware of the article/blog, until almost two full months after the article appeared, however. (At least Dcc. 24, 2008 to Feb. 21, 2009 works out to almost two full months, by my math.)

FTR, I was no huge fan of the politics of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone, although I did think he had a fair amount of personal integrity. I have not, that I can ever recall, publicly or even privately particularly supported Sen. Norm Coleman, do not see that changing anytime soon, and I see even less liklihood that I will become a great supporter of Al Franken, should he eventually be seated. I posted the essence of this back three times around the first of the year, BTW.

I would suggest that even then, I basically considered the MN Senatorial race to a choosing between sludge and slime, frankly, neither option of which I would find particularly appealing to trudge around in, while wearing anything less than a "chemical & hazardous materials" protective suit.

I'm just sorry that the one who was my college roommate for two years had to basically make that choice, given he is a Minnesotan.

Lady Eagle, once again I agree with the statement about "personal attacks" on of such attacks I just accidentally ran across one that I notice you, yourself, made regarding a poster that posted on one of the Coleman threads. I would simply ask that you abide by the same principles here, that you have publicly admonished the rest of us, as well.

I'm not ever attempting to embarrass you or anyone else, FTR. You can read almost 8K posts of mine to notice that that is not my style, nor am I generally considered to be one making personal attacks, I do not think. At least I haven't had any posts snipped, that I can recall off the top of my head, and certainly none recently, for any such personal attack.

Okay, Ed, I will leave this open and your points are well taken except for this one:

Would you please provide a link to the personal attack you say I made on a poster on one of the Coleman threads? I honestly don't even recall being involved in any discussion regarding Coleman, so a link to that allegation would be appreciated.

I really try to refrain from personal attacks even though I seem to be a regular target to some here and even have had the honor bestowed of entire threads started about what a "rogue moderator" I am.

If I ever let some people around here know what I really thought of them, I would be banned. :D

So if you will provide a link, that will be helpful. Other than that, carry on....remembering there is a 3-page limit. Thanks.

PS: I appreciate your well thought out post and your attitude of a gentleman.

LE, if a nerve was struck, perhaps you should consider if there is even a grain of truth in some of the comments. But let's be totally honest...the phrase "rogue mod" was mine, and it wasn't in the OP. In fact, I wasn't even talking about you personally, but noting that there needs to be more moderator accountability. It does seem on some occasions there is an abuse of moderator priviledges, without any review, appeal, or notice. Also that there are instances of posts disappearing and a final shot taken by the mod, rather than just closing. Being a moderator is a priviledge, and should be undertaken with a desire to be equitable, especially in debates. I moderate on two boards, and go out of my way to insure that I do not even give the appearance of using my rights on them to stifle opposing views. I think you believe you are totally fair, and much of the time I would agree. But if I am being honest, there are times when I believe that is not the case. I only ask that you think about it.

I think this is true for all of us. I may not always like everyone here, but I do my best to post with grace and love, even when people are not always loveable. Do I always succeed. I can tell you for sure, the answer is no.

Please take this in the spirit in which it is offered. You are my sister, and even though we don't always see eye to eye, I appreciate that you take your time to volunteer to moderate. And I know we all take offense at times, but for any time I have offended you, I offer my sincerest apologies.

Likewise, you have made a fair request. I will do what I can to comply with it. As I said, or at least meant, I accidentally stumbled across that while searching for something else, but did not take note of exactly where it was. It will likely take some time to find. FTR, what was the 'attack' IMO, was on a poster that later posted on a "Coleman" thread, not in the the thread, itself.

I fully realize that personal attacks are not your usual approach, by any stretch. ( I was actually surprised to notice what I would deem an attack from you, FWIW. Ad IMO, neither are they the modus operandi of any other Moderator of whom I'm aware. If that were the usual fare, I can assure you that we would not even be having this conversation, for I would not even be participating on the Baptist Board.)

Thanks likewise, for your even handed treatment of all.

FTR, I really have little further to add to the saga of Sen. Norman Coleman, Sen. Dean Barkley, Mr. Alan Franken, et al., Senate race, except to say, in the words of that immortal and very wise sage, 'Yogi' Berra: "It ain't over until it's over!"

I have already asked the questions, previously, and stated my personal opinions of the two leading leading vote-getters in that race. I have yet to see any reason to withdraw my questions I asked, apologize for anything I have said regarding that race, or change my personal and/or political opinion of either Sen. Norm Coleman, or Mr. Al Franken.

I already likened this race to one choosing between 'sludge' and 'slime.' I can assure you that I have seen races, here in my own state, several times, where I would consider that a very appropriate characterization.
