With the passing of Joe Paterno, long time football coach for Penn State, I can only surmise that he must have caved in to the stress of the situation he was dumped into and lost the will to live. :tear:
Case in point: Paterno was terminated from a job he held and loved for more than 46 years; and the reasons were under a cloud of suspicion regarding his mishandling of the charges of child molestation against his long-time friend and assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Can negative stress and energy in ones life cause illness to flare up, or cause someone to lose the will to live? :tear:
Will Joe Pa' death be attributed to heartbreak as much as the lung cancer? :type:

rd2, my wife and I raised a son and two daughters. We then raised three grand daughters and a grand son. All of the grand kids are now well into their teens.
Our three are fully grown adults.
It's very scary to even consider that if any of those kids were to accuse me of something, as was Paterno, even at 66 years of age my life would be over!
There is no way to protect yourself against such an allegation.
...given the right circumstances I'd have to say yes, one can certainly lose the will to live. -

Yes. One can lose the will to live. It's only God that keeps us alive at those times. After losing a business, a home, and then my husband of 33 years leaving me, I lost the will to live. I prayed God would take me home. The pain of all the loss was too great. But God didn't take me. I will be here until He says it's time to go. We do not choose our time of death, God does.

I Feel For You...
It is bad right now, but, it will get better. Like the song in "Annie" says, "The sun will come up tomorrow!"
It may not seem like it at this moment in time, Amy, but you are a suvivor and God has a plan for you that will take you far beyond the place you are now at.
I've been so far down in the pit, that at one time I actually held a semiautomatic .22 long rifle in my mouth and pulled the trigger.
It was God's grace that caused the gun not to fire, which is as unexplainable today as it was then, because the gun was loaded, and there was an unspent shell in the chamber. It just didn't, wouldn't fire, and because it didn't fire, instead of pulling it one more time, I had a moment to pause and think, and that caused me to put down the rifle, and ponder taking a hand full of Rx drugs.
That is when the Holy Ghost forcefully came upon me and causing me to fall into a very deep sleep, and two days later, I was visiting a spirit filled charismatic church in Tustin, CA and through a well known prophet (and, no it wasn't Peter Popoff), God's hand reached far down into the pit, I had entrenched and buried myself in, and pulled me out. My life has not been the same since, and I have experienced full and complete restoration, forgiveness, and healing of my heart.
I am here today because He naver gave up on me, even though I had given up on myself. I had lost the will to live, and tried to leave this life on my terms.
Because I hear and feel your hurt and pain in the words you write, you need to know that along with many others on the board, prayers for your healing and recovery are coming your way, and coming even as I say this to you.
I'm sure there are other on the board who can identify with you and your loss, and they too ar lifting you up as I am.
Shalom, my sister.... :praying: -
Thank you Paul. :flower::flower::flower::flower:

My goodness, of course people can lose the will to live.
Thats the reason for every suicide that takes place. -
It seems that so often when one spouse dies the other does in a short period of time especially if the couple is elderly.

Circumstances can indeed rob us of the will to live... the will to get up out of bed ....the will to communicate with others .... and more.
It's all part of the "roaring lion" seeking whom he may devour. Part of that devouring is robbing of us joy and peace and replacing with a despair so great that living is actually painful.
Thank God that He can rescue us from despair and restore our joy. :godisgood: -
Thank you Scarlett. God is healing me. I don't know where I'd be without Him. I can't understand how people who don't know God can cope with life.

Amy, sadly many of them don't very well. Drugs and alcohol are one avenue of escape, but there are many more. Sitting here, now, I thank God that both you and righteousdude2 found the right path.
With Joe Paterno, it's hard to answer the poll. Perhaps, best explained this way.
Went to see a gracious lady a few days before she passed away from COPD. She was at home and lying in a hospital bed. She had a smile on her face and her eyes lit up when we entered the room. Had she given up the will to live? In one sense she had. She was no longer fighting the disease that was taking her life. Instead she was patiently waiting for the Lord to call her home. She was happy. She was content, as she laughed when she told a fish story. She had put the cares of the world behind her and was looking forward.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. -

Either it is ultimately up to God or it isn't. I prefer to believe that it is up to Him.

It's both a physiological and psychological issue. That's what stress is. Jesus was so stressed out in the Garden prior to His death He sweat blood, or His sweat was like blood! No reason a person's heart cannot stop beating due to extreme stress..
Amy my heart hurts for you :( Praying...
