What do you say? Apparently it has progressed over time and to this day without the gospel in the Roman Catholic and progressive churches. Although the author of this book we are reading at church focuses on Catholics I think progressives are just as bad but at a far smaller number.
What the result today is are lifeless and dead churches that do not know nor preach the gospel. Dozens of progressive churches in Denver CO call themselves Christian but are dead. This developed during the mid-evil period.
How can the gospel be rescued and or defended today? I say that we boldly point out error, live gospel based lives, and preach the gospel. But how can this be done?
Can Christianity move on without the gospel?

The gospel doesn't need to be rescued, people need to be rescued.
The gospel needs to be clarified, though, by stopping the focus on works.... -

In a word, no. Without the Gospel there is no Biblical Christianity.

Yet another fault finding thread, bashing others, and tearing down the body of Christ. Yes, the RCC is riddled with mistaken doctrines. But if I was thirsty, they would give me water. If I was cold, they would give me their coat. I even know some compassionate Calvinists.
Answer this, what does the WOTM teach about those who engage in endless fault finding? -

30 Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And in like manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion,
34 and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. Lu 10

This reveals another trap into which some committed evangelicals fall.
They select a few passages which become" the plan of salvation".
Because these passages are taken from the bible, they feel theirs is the biblical view of salvation.
But they fail to take into consideration other passages-which,incidentally, are just as biblical-that emphasize other aspects of the salvation experience.

Question: "Answer this, what does the WOTM teach about those who engage in endless fault finding?"
Answer: "So you are saying that Catholics have the right view on Justification?"
Smoke and Smear, shuck and jive, deflect and demean. The teachings of Christ and His Apostles concerning fault finding are part of the gospel.
The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?”
Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.”
There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; some were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.”
Do all things without grumbling or disputing; -
By those who lives match up to what they are preaching /teaching to others. and to do that in the power of the Holy Spirit Himself! -

Hi Icon, no I am not. Stop slandering me. I am endeavoring to teach Christian attitudes and behaviors based on scripture. Christians should not be fault finders, except when they compare themselves to Christ.
This should not be this hard. Just read your bibles, folks. -

Excuse me....but you are picking on him and grumbling, the very thing you posted about......look in the mirror.......
You find "fault with the doctrines of grace "in every post, even if it is an Arminian who posts:Cautious:Cautious:Cautious

I see Icon is grumbling, fault finding and avoiding Christ's instructions.
He claims he does not know the difference between refuting mistaken doctrine and smearing opponents.
Smoke and smear, shuck and jive, deflect and demean, that is all the advocates of Calvinism offer. They constantly find fault with others, constantly shifting the subject from their mistaken doctrine.
Christ and His Apostles teach that grumbling is prideful. God gives grace to the humble but opposes the proud.

These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.

Here you seek to put it on me,when dozens of times you seek to "flatter the FOLKS ".......
There are only 3 or 4 of us that glance at your posts, as you repeat your failed agenda and grumble against the grace of God. -
Grumblers claim the prideful right to bash others. Pay no attention to the name calling, labeling, disparaging posts of the advocates of mistaken doctrine. They cannot defend their bogus views from scripture so the shuck and jive, post smoke and smears, deflect and demean.
We are to defend the gospel with truth, not fallacies such as smearing others.

'Tell people the disease; then tell them the remedy' (Gideon Ouseley, obscure19th Century evangelist).
The disease is sin; the remedy is Christ. This is the Gospel in a nutshell. Sometimes I think we make things too complicated. Let the dead bury the dead. Leave the lifeless churches alone. Find a living church and reach out to the lost with the Gospel from there. -
Instead of grumbling about lifeless churches, we should be building up life giving churches. :)
