It is biblical to obey the laws of the land, God's word says so...but when mans laws disobey God's where are we to draw the line?

    Just a breif thought...

If starting in 2009 President Hilary decides to take a mandatory 5% out of you paycheck and give it to specifically sodomites for fighting aids and other diseases caught because they are perverts should we pay cheerfully of be angry that they are violating God's word?

This world is not our home, we are just passing through, but we are to obey God and Country while here...what happens when authority crosses?

 Please, tell me you are not being serious. The church is perfectly capable of handing out the gospel now, regardless of our tax burden. They would be equally as capable of handing out the gospel if they were to take over the lions share of the burden of social welfare. What they would not be able to do is effectively, efficiently, and fairly provide for the lions share of social welfare.

Ask someone who is hungry and has starving kids if they'd rather hear a sermon or have a meal. You must deal with the basics of survival to reach the hearts & minds. Fulfill Maslow's self-actualization layer before you can move up the pyramid, if you will.

I think maybe you need to study the constitution and constitutional history a little more closely, especially when you give absurd "what if" analogies. Maybe then people might be able to take you more seriously.

But MP that is against the bible. We shouldn't feed someone if they are not willing to hear or accept our God and our Bible.

I hope you are right about Hillary Clinton being President in 2009, or at least some other Democrat.

I haven't read anything about any homosexual tax, but I do think that more should be done to fight HIV and AIDS.

No one and no entity has a moral right to put a gun to your head and force you to fork over your money to give to another person.

Are do the principles of God's law not apply to public officials?

If you call taxation having a "gun put to your head" you have no idea what you are talking about!

 The bible gives no mandate as to how governments spend tax money, nor to how it is collected. Again as a true Christian, the government would not have to put a gun to your head in order to receive what is rightly theirs.

I think the Bible was mistranslated. It must have really said, "Render unto Caesar what he taketh by force and useth the power of weaponry. For it is written, taxes and rendering aid to the victims of disasters are an abomination to thy LORD."

Please read my entire sentence. The emphasis is on the last part. I am not claiming that taxes are wrong. I am claiming that there are moral and immoral expenditures of taxes.

By the way, if anyone thinks that taxes are not collected based on the threat of government force what do you think happens to a person if he doesn't pay his taxes.

You don't even own your home. If you don't pay the property taxes on it the government will take it away - and it won't ask "pretty please".

"Remember that one's relationship with the state is never voluntary. Every government edict, policy, regulation, court decision, and law ultimately is backed up by force, in the form of police, guns, and jails. That is why political power must be fiercely constrained by the American people." - Congressman Ron Paul(R-TX)

Are you suggesting the IRS packs carrots?

I am not denying that fact at all. I have maintained all along that if you are a true Christian the government will not feel obligated to take from you by force, that which is rightfully theirs.

I don't particularly care for the phrase "rightfully theirs". But setting that aside, there's the rub - to use your phrase, how much is "rightfully theirs"? If the government decides that is 100% of your income would you cheerfully hand over to the government that "which is rightfully theirs"?

As a Christian yes I would. As an American I find that highly unlikely due to the due process clause of the 14th amendment, not to mention the power of the people to elect different government officials long before we ever allowed such a measure to pass. (even the so-called neo-socialists you so despise)

Who is taking this 100% tax, btw? The federal government? The state? A combination of both?

What I hear you saying is, "When the government spends tax money on things I like it's right; however, when the government spends it on things I don't like, they are wrong."

In my opinion, to help the poor is a good way to spend much of our tax dollars. It's better than building bridges to nowhere and other pork barrel spending.

Yeah, we've been fighting the war on poverty with our tax dollars for 40 years - and poverty won. Government enforced "charity" is way, way less efficient and effective than real charity is.
