Ministers advocate 'Christian Solidarity'
Nearly 40 Evangelical Christian ministers stood on the steps of First Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City this week and declared their unity.
They were gathered on a hot Tuesday afternoon to announce the formation of a new movement they call "Christian Solidarity." Under that slogan, these ministers will put on their churches banners, plaques and signs that read: "One Church, One God, Jesus Christ, Worship Him Here."
"It's important for Evangelical pastors to come together," said the Rev. Eric Morgan of Living Waters Christian Fellowship. "There is perceived disunity [in our ranks]. We want to change that. This crosses doctrinal, racial and cultural boundaries."
The group has no plans to speak out on political or social issues, nor to create any formal structure for common services.
Rather, it's about declaring their shared beliefs in the Trinity, which is "one God, three persons," that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, the Bible alone is God's holy word, human nature is fallen and sinful and salvation is by grace alone.

You know I'm all for unity in christianity, but not att he price of comprimised major doctrines. Which sounds like a sure bet here.

Christian solidarity is a pipe dream. Somebody, I wish I could remember who, said in a post the other day that if you had one single denomination today, with everybody on the same wave length, tomorrow you'd have two.
The closest thing we'll get to unity will come when we are under great persecution world wide. -
I am curious about which doctrines they are not worried about. If it is just minor stuff, then no problem. They are espousing salvation by grace, the Trinity, the deity of Christ, the fallen nature of man, the singularity and uniqueness of the Bible as God's Word....that's all pretty basic and I can see what they are trying to do. The statement as printed here on BB excludes cults and Roman Catholicism, so it is not one of the 'worldwide' ecumenical statements about 'one god' regardless...
Maybe they are doing something good? Does anyone know more? -

The cynical cabbie reads that and translates it to "We are not going to say anything, or do much, but hey, check out our photo-op with this groovy green sign..." ;)

Some things in America are funny . . . sick . . . but, funny.

Unity is a worthy goal, but not if it involves moral or theological compromise, which it almost always does.We don't have to agree about everything, but vital beliefs such as biblical inerrancy, the deity of Christ, and the call to live a righteous life cannot be diluted. Full Christian unity will sadly always be elusive and unattainable.

All believers already have unity in Christ. It is Christ who gives us unity through faith.
Unity exists despite denominational (Christian) differences, so all this striving for unity tends to be something that leads to compromise, imo. -
Its the slipperry slope. Don't fall for it.

None of the churchs are changing their doctrins or practices. The only thing they are doing is pooling money to run TV advertisements that say something to the effect of "Even though we are many parts of the body we are all united in one body" -
The Mormon church is like the Catholic church in that they believe they are the one true church that god has ordained on earth. They often use the statement that if we were Gods people then why are we so devided. I think this groups sole purpose is to combat against that claim. -

Here is a letter signed by members of this group.

If we have unity through faith in Christ then I would say we have unity in God's eyes. What difference does it make if we disagree on other matters? If it makes a difference in God's eyes, then we don't have unity in faith. -
Good post.

These are the things a church must agree on to be part of this.
