Harry Reid cited an unnamed source and accused Romney of not paying his taxes for the last 10 years. Do you believe such accusations should be supported by Christians?

Can such behavior be supported or refuted with scripture?

McConnell: Reid’s accusations against Romney ‘beneath the dignity of his office’

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell." -
I am shocked someone voted for option number 4. I would be interested to see them justify it.

All slander is sin because all slander involves some kind of lie.

It's only slander if it's not true; the truth isn't slander and is simply fact. Still, talking badly about other people is not Christian, although speaking out against sin is something even Jesus did. He even called the scribes and pharisees hypocrites to their faces.
The question is--what is a person's motive and intent in talking about someone or calling them names? Usually it's to tear down the other person and make them look bad, and to build one's self up in the eyes and minds of others.
This reminds me of the pharisee in the temple who spoke badly to God about the publican who also prayed in the temple. The pharisee bragged on himself and his good works, while comparing himself to the sinful publican. Scripture says that the publican who simply cried out, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner" went home justified.
Slandering someone (lying about them) is something that should not be done by Christians. Spreading gossip (true or not) is also something we shouldn't do. What I do is to talk to God and not to others about a person. I might request prayer at church for someone, but I don't give specific details; God knows everyone's needs. However, my sin nature sometimes gets in the way, and I say, do and think things I shouldn't. I'm still a work in progress, and God's work in me will be completed when He calls me home. -
As a matter of principle, lying ought not be condoned because it is condemned in Scripture. That a politician would so blatantly engage in it for gain speaks to his lack of character.

How is it slander to say a person has not paid any taxes in ten years?
I know, I know ... Reid is playing a political card and I realize he doesn't care what anyone thinks or says. He has nothing to loose. He won't run for re-election in 2016 ... so he has absolutely nothing to loose.
But is what he said slander? He did not say Romney broke any laws. He did not call Romney any names. He simply said that Mitt has not paid any taxes for ten years.
WOW, if that is slander than I have been slandered much more severely on this BB.
Oh, the dictionary definition of slander is:
It is interesting that Reid is also a member in good standing of the Church of Latter Dauy Saints. -

By your logic if I said .... so and so on the BB lives in Chicago it would be slander if that person did not live there.
That is not the definition of slander.
As I said, if Reid had added something negative about Romney's character then, if it was false, it would be slander.

I don't need any benefit of doubt as there is none. Ex-military are bad for law enforcement as they tend to be brutal and lack the ability to stand for the constitutional rights of the people. Also they have a tendency to lie and be dishonest when it comes to their own, look at yourself who is seeking to cover for these criminals even with clear proof they violated the rights of these people, you still seek to cover for them. You alone are the evidence that anyone with ex-military should net be in any form of police work. -FAL http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=75330&highlight=military+brutal
Quoted in entirety:
I think the military makes many men killers in an extended war as we have been in. The brain washing that goes on gets deep into their heart and mind and the person can lose sight of how to deal with people that are not enemy combatants and when they come across someone suspoected of a crime they use it as an excuse to excessive force. So when they come home many of them are not able to separate from their experience that they had in the military. This is why we see many of them seek out to become private security in war zones. If you remember what many of the so called ex-military have done to citizens in Iraq and other countries calling it security then you will see what happens. They are trigger happy andbrutal seeking the high of the kill or fight. This is what we see happening here now and it will escalate as more and more ex-military who join the civilian police forces and agencies not to mention those who remain in the military and the government turns them lose on the populous. -FAL http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=74825&highlight=military+brutal
