I fall for all the Christmas trappings every year I guess.

Nothing wrong with celebrating the Word becoming flesh and good will to all men.

But we do go over the top I think with all the paraphernalia. The gentile west is the worst for this I would say, then again that could be argued.

This is one of the craziest threads that I have ever seen on the BB.

In the last 24 hours, I have sat back and cackled at it several times.

    So... wait...

All of this about "adding Christmas" is all about adding a HEADER??? Please tell me that all of this hullabaloo is not about that. If it is then this is the most bone-headed topic to ever flame across the BB. Headers =/= scripture, so what is the problem? Like was said above, just write it in to your heart's content. Or petition any bible publisher to add it in. For a nice enough fee I am sure they could cut you a copy with the header just for you.

If, however, Harold is advocating adding "Christmas" into the scriptures themselves... he is in much worse shape that I previously thought. If the writers of scripture, through the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, did not see fit to mention a celebration of a date that was seen as so unimportant that the date was not even hinted at in the first place, why in the name of all that is holy should ANYONE dare to insert it anyway? The early church did not celebrate any day for the birth of Christ; that was added much later to take the place of a pagan festival (which was the Catholic Church's way of incorporating pagan people into the fold without taking away any of their old beliefs). "Christ's Mass" has very little to do with the actual events of the birth of Jesus Christ as I have already shown how the date was arrived at and that His birth cold not have happened in the winter anyway.

The administration of the BB seriously needs to figure out an entrance examination for the BVT forum... sort of like a CAPTCHA for those who don't have a clue and are a danger to the sensibilities of others. The very opening of this thread could be used as a rallying point for this very thing.

Oh, so it didnt fit your pate' so you salted it until you no longer liked the taste. These arenot vague similarities in how some deal with a topic, and no doubt saggy cackled amoungst her own broodings. We still find the very essence of the real Christmas in Luke and those who object are attacking the word of God. David has offered probably the most honest and sane response out of all, the rest have pretty much typical

The real essence of what you say "Christmas" is really in the resurrection of Christ.

    Ligon Duncan
    Philip Yancey
    Joni Eareckson Tada
    J.I. Packer
    Martyn Lloyd-Jones
    Charles Spurgeon
    Philip Ryken
    Adrian Rogers
    Are they stupid or what?

As a matter of fact, you did state your aim:
So, basically, you are advocating adding to the word of God to satisfy your own opinion and to accede to the traditions of man? Translators having to use additional words to give the meaning and sense of the original languages is one thing, but to tamper with that which God has given us...? I am truly flabbergasted.

Why stop there? I mean, if you are going to shake your fist in the face of God and tell Him He messed up and didn't put in all the stuff that should have been included in the scriptures, why not add in all the rest? Go ahead and give dates for the actual birth of Jesus. Give a date for His conception. don't forget to mention when the shopping season opens. Surely, if you are going to alter God's given word, you could go ahead and do that.

How about adding in what bible version everyone should use? That would really cut down on the confusion. Oh, and what denomination is really, really right... we could use that information for sure. What color carpet is most godly? How big a church should be? How close the pastor's parking spot should be?

Why, I would be happy if you would add in the date and time of Jesus' return. i wouldn't want to not be ready and all.

    [/sarcasm]
