CNN airs footage of Iraq sniper attacks

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer Thu Oct 19, 8:39 PM ET

NEW YORK - A CNN executive said Thursday the network's effort to present the "unvarnished truth" about the
Iraq war led it to televise portions of a video that shows insurgent snipers targeting U.S. military personnel.

The tape, which came to the network unexpectedly through contact with an insurgent leader, was aired first Wednesday night on "Anderson Cooper 360" and repeated on Thursday.

In one instance, the tape shows a uniformed member of the U.S. military milling in a public area with Iraqis. A shot rings out. CNN fades the screen to black before the result — described as a victim falling forward — is visible.

It's one of 10 separate sniper attacks on Americans documented on the tape, which CNN technicians concluded was authentic, said David Doss, executive producer of Cooper's show, in a Web log entry describing the network's decision what to show.

NBC also showed the video during the "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams".

I came across this on the Michael Savage show with him giving the CNN audio commentary. It was completely pathetic! With the journalist reporting it as if he were gleefully embedded with the enemy troops. They would have never stood for such in WWI or WWII. Back then the journalist cared for America and understood who the bad guys were.

Remember "Lose Lips, Sinks Ships"? That slogan was appreciated by all then who obviously loved their country! Today that slogan would be rediculed. With such as CNN and others screaming at anyone who dared question their journalistic freedom's. After shouting people down, they would then go ahead and list where and when the ships would be. Possibly even the Captain and/or Crews names and addresses. Hey, you doubt? They did that exact thing to Oliver North when he gave testimony to Congress. When speaking about personal attempts on his and his families lives, one of the major networks listed his name with address.

I guess such is still the case and as CNN stated with this story,
What they forget is, it does not meet my criteria! I would like to tell them something, ##@%%!!**#^##^ + ##@!!##??. That's all I have to say.

Save the Freedom of Speech/Press garbage!:tonofbricks:

Right. They have no qualms about reporting things like this that the believe will have a demoralizing effect on the public... Yet they voluntarily cooperated in not replaying the 9/11 attacks because it might incite ill-will against Muslims.

I wonder how much freedom of the press they think their heroes afford when in charge?

It also shows a bit about the way our country has gone:

It should outrage Americans that this is happening.

Instead, many Americans have the attitude that we deserve it.

The coming election may show whether this "attitude" wins or not. The "throw incumbents out" voting could have that effect. Our incumbents are tossed because of Iraq, therefore the insurgents are not only right, they win. Great win for the entire Muslim world.

Any one interested in buying a t-shirt with your favorite journalist in the cross hairs?

And although I am kidding, if I get enough offers, I might take up some well meaning 1st amendment protesters up on the offers.

I've always said CNN is the American version of Al Jazeera. This further proves it. Sickening.

Like Teddy Turnip, they just cannot make up their mind as to who's side they're on! Maybe in another few years they will decide and make it public? Though I think they already did so many years ago.

Or maybe al-qaeda will quit being nice to journalists and go back to killing a half dozen or dozen in a row . . .

That might get their loyalties straightened out . . . or get them dead.

The videotape was also shown on Australian news programs as part of the reports of whatis happening in Iraq. It is shocking, it is disturbing, but it is what is happening. I don't really know what the US commetary on it was, but the video itself is newsworthy, not just propaganda. It is one of the outcomes of war. We also see the bombs that explode in places likeIsrael, the shooting in some parts of Aftica and other sad, disturbing acts of violence - i heartilly wish there was non of it, but as there is, it is reasonable that it be reported, hopefully fully and fairly.

    Regards
    Bob

I suppose when you're clinging to denial, the truth is a betrayal.

Don't you wonder just a little bit why an insurgent group would want this video shown all over the world?

Is this really news or is CNN doing insurgents a favor by broadcasting their propaganda?

An American news organization should be responsible enough not to intentionally allow themselves to be used as a propaganda outlet for those that are killing our soldiers in the field.

It also amazes me that there are so called Americans who would condone this type behavior by a so called news organization.

    And then there's this:

Some family or families are going to go to sleep at night now wondering if that was their loved one being shot on film. They already know they were killed by a sniper, now they can possibly have the joy of watching it happen.

Sickening. Those that condone it are sickening, as well.
