It is going to be another hot day here in Oklahoma, but not as hot as every yesterday. We hit 100. Aren't you glad you are in cool Wyoming,Dr. Bob?

I just checked the temp in Alaska. There's the place to be.

I think I am ahead of schedule on packing my four boxes a day.

No Diane, we are not moving yet, just packing...

Good Morning All!

Sorry I didn't stop back in last night.

Hubby replaced the old 'fuse' box with a new 'breaker' box and was busy rewiring so I couldn't get online. Now the process begins of replacing ALL the wiring to every outlet and light switch in the whole house. :eek:

This house was built in 1892 and there is still a box in the attic over the living room from when they had "gas" lights!

Nothing is marked, so when he pulls a plug we never know what is going to lose power. :rolleyes:

I hope everyone is ready for church and ready to get what God has for them today.

Good Afternoon Friends! Lunch is on the grill but had a few minutes to check in. I'll drink this cold Pepsi while I visit!

Oh Sue! I'd love an older home. They have so much personality compared to the new homes. No nooks and crannies here.... :(

I got called out of church to work in Children's Church. I always enjoy being with the little ones.

I had something happen that I feel is of God. For about 2 weeks I've had the urge to volunteer to teach 4 or 5 year olds in S/S but I knew the women who have done that have been a team for YEARS. Today the husband of one of the teachers came up to me and said, "My wife will be joining me in Sunday School soon. She's giving up teaching the 5 year olds." Well... I felt this was certainly God speaking to me! So when I entered the church building (my S/S class is in the Plantation home the church owns next door), coming down the stairs and meeting me face to face is the chairman of the nominating committee!

Diane: It certainly sounds like you are receiving confirmation on your call!

I used to teach the four-year-old class. I loved it. They were mostly children who were bussed in. Hubby was a bus 'captain' and a driver. I would go with him on his Saturday visitations so I knew most of the kids before they got to church.

What are you grilling and do you have enough for me? :D

 

I think that was a loud and clear call from God, Sue! I love that age group so very much.

We had BBQ chicken and yes, I always cook too much! LOL Come on over.

All righty then! I might have to bring Pastor Bob too...that is his favorite dish. ;) He is always making up new recipes for barbecue sauce.

 

Hello everybody! We were back from our Pennsylvania trip but was too tired to report. Just came back from church, and are trying to have lunch. Our lunch is at 2:30 or 3:00 PM (depending on traffic). Daughter #1 brought my favorite dessert: FLAN! See you all later.

 

Now if flan iswot I think it is, Brother Barnabas, you may have to walk an extra mile. That is a lot of pastry and sweet fillings....

Just relaxing. Maybe we should take up on this BBQing,,never do it! We are having lamb and fresh smallish new potatoes for dinner. Corn isn't quite ready, so we will have to have green beans and tin corn.

Who wants to help Blackbird count his "millions" when I get this receipe from Barnabas??? Of course, there'll be a "cut" for Barnabas--I'll let him "skim" the cream off the top---there'll still be millions left for Blackbird and co.!

Blackbird, flan, in England, is a pastry case filled with sweets...if it is the same for Barnabas....

Dr. Bob, when I first came from England, I couldn't stand the heat. Having been here for sometime now, I love the heat, and 90 would be delightful for me...the dryness just makes it better...Hmmmmm Daughter is always tempting me to come to Florida with her temperatures.

Hi Jim, Dr. Bob and Blackbird! Welcome back Barnabas!

I had to look up Flan. I didn't know what is was either. It is a custard dish.

Ingredients

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 (12 fluid ounce) can NESTLE® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
1/2 (14 ounce) can NESTLE® CARNATION® Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/2 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
2-1/2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

1 PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees F.
2 COMBINE sugar and water in medium, heavy-duty saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 3 to 4 minutes or until dissolved. Increase heat to medium-high; boil, without stirring, for about 15 minutes or until caramel colored. Quickly pour over bottom and sides of 12 six-ounce custard cups (if syrup hardens, soften over low heat).
3 PLACE evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese, butter, eggs and vanilla extract in blender; cover. Blend until smooth. Pour mixture into prepared custard cups. Arrange in one or two large baking pans; pour hot water in pan(s) to 1-inch depth.
4 BAKE for 35 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan(s) on wire rack(s) for 20 minutes. Chill for several hours or overnight. Run knife around rims; gently shake to loosen. Invert onto serving dishes.
YIELD: Six servings

 

Sue, where is the pastry case? That must be the version for this side of the pond.

Jim, here is a picture that goes with the recipe I posted. I found many different types of 'Flan', even a broccoli one! It seems like each country makes it differently.

 

Flan, pronounced [FLAHN] is commonly used as a term to describe the Spanish, Portuguese or Mexican version of Creme Caramel normally baked in a water bath and turned out of it's mold onto a plate for serving. In England the term usually refers to a crust with either a sweet or savory filling. The crust is formed and baked in a flan ring, cooled and filled. The sweet filling frequently includes a custard.

That flan looks good Sue. I love flan, I ahd it once when I made it, don't remember where I go the recipe, but it didn't have cream cheese in it I think.
