Ok, this might end up being a name-calling thing again like anything that involves Israel but...what do you think of the theories:

From everything I know about the attack, it's clear that the Israelis knew they were firing on an American vessel. Why they did so, I don't know.
-
I figure this thread will deteriorate and the true anti-Semites among us will pop out as the days go by. Since I believe Israel is still the "apple of God's eye," count me out on finger pointing at Israel. :D
-
I figured as much from you, LadyEagle. Israel can do no wrong in your eyes, even if it attacks these United States.
-
I figured you'd be the first to get your jabs in about Israel, like usual. (predictable, too) Get real. Israel will never attack the United States deliberately. Israel is not an aggressor #1. Israel has a lot of people with dual citizenships in the US #2. The US is the best friend Israel has on the planet #3. The Israeli-US relationship goes much deeper than you'll ever begin to know #4.

I am an Ameria Firster, LE, not an Israel Firster. I wish you were, too. -
America is sitting so close to the edge of judgment... I'm praying, but I'm a God firster, America is on her own. I do have it on good authority however, that Israel will be the last kingdom standing.

Whether or not God has favorite nations (an issue in itself) - all I know is, even if he does it does not mean he ignores their sin anymore than he ignores another nation's sin. Probably ignores it even less - the price of being a "chosen generation."

The USS Liberty incident is a real mystery and a terrible tragedy. I think both the US and Israeli governments have covered up what really happened. Some accusations have been that the Israelis were afraid the Liberty would expose their attacks in the 67 War but others have pointed out that US intelligence already knew of Israel's plans and the US was certaintly not going to warn the Arabs, so that does not add up.
The USS Liberty crewman claim that Israeli war planes attacked them though their ship had a American Flag that according to them clearly identified them as an American ship.
I don't know what happened. The fog of War often results in major accidents. It seems nuts to me for Israel to intentially attack a ship of it's strongest ally and risk it's own survival by losing American military aid. Most likely it was a tragic mistake by the Israeli military. -

What? Apple of God's eye does not equal "sinless" and is not implied in my comment.
God to Israel:
"For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye." -
"Conspiracy theory of the USS Liberty"
Well if it's a conspiracy theory there is no need for anyone to investigate it is there? The label it wears tells us the whole story. That's good enough for most folks. -
As it is written, "There is no one righteous. No, not one." (Romans 3:10)
If we belong to Christ, then and only then are WE Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (See Galatians 3:22-29) -

JGrubbs, I do not believe in replacement theology.
PA Jim, your question is akin to how many angels can fit on a head of a pin. But if Israel were to attack us, I would assume, as I would assume with the UK, Australia, Canada, and Ireland, that it was unintentional.
Besides, I thought you guys didn't believe in conspiracy theories. -
But LE, your positioin requires that Israel be given free hand to do whatever, and attack wherever, and for any reason, that they desire. And these are not Christian people.
It's not a tenable position, if that's the case. Or so it seems to me. -
But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
--Galatians 3:22-29 -
Also - the United States isn't Christian people, either, to be technical, and neither is the UK, Ireland, Australia, etc. Israel is not an aggressor nation. The same can't be said about the US, sadly.
JGrubbs, your position is called replacement theology - you can look it up on Google. I never knew such a position existed within the Baptist realm until I came to this board & quickly learned that what was being propagated is called "replacement theology." Picks and chooses verses out of context to "prove" God is finished with Israel.
The Scripture also says that we (being the Church) are "grafted" in. This has been discussed many times in the theology section of the board, but I don't have time to look up the verses right now. -
Re: Replacement Theology - all the usual arguments for and Scriptural rebuttals.

I do believe that God choose Israel in the Old Testement and as you said, and that He has "grafted" in anyone who accepts Christ to be recipeints of His blessings. I also believe that anyone who rejects Christ free gift of salvation will die and burn in hell, regardless of if they are from Israel or anywhere else in the world.
I don't believe that Israel is promised heaven simply because they are Jewish, they too must repent of their sin and accept the free gift of salvation by grace through faith, just like everyone else.
