Kathy, you forgot to add that you are speaking hypothetically and it is in no way reflecting on your personal knowledge of webpage design - right?!
-
Can I enroll too? Been studying on doing one for the Lord myself, & also been toying with the idea of an internet business, nothing big
but I don't even know how to do small!! -
As a webmaster, I can say that your choices are unlimited! There is a plethora of information regarding designing websites on the internet. (I have used www.bellsnwhistles.com a number of times.) I also use Microsoft Frontpage 2000. Many people don't like it, but for a beginner, it really does quite well. I consider myself an immediate level webmaster (Still have yet to take my test for certification. :( ), and I still use Frontpage. (Don't use Frontpage Express or Netscape Composer... bad, bad, bad! I designed the web page for my church but I'm not the webmaster. We had a web master already and I offered my help in making a professional looking web page. The webmaster has changed a few things, so, I can't vouch for what has occurred since I gave him the initial pages.
The url is: www.salembaptisttemple.org
Also, I am the web master for my work, e-mail me if you'd like the url for that. If you need any help, please, let me know!

I used to love designing my own webpage, just for fun. I have had tons of different looks as I have learned to design. My first page was done with some cheesy editor. From there I learned to cheat *hehe*. I would View Source and see what code was used. I finally found the HTMLib (HTML Library) and figured out what the codes actually meant! I have found the HTMLib very handy IF you want to code the page yourself. Of course, when I went from my editor to strictly using HTML I had my husband around to help me when I got stuck! the HTMLib is still handy in explaining how to implement certaing things and giving one an understanding as to what they are doing. The thing I use it for the most now is color coding! Finding just THE perfect shade of pink! *hehe* The color guide itself is worth the effort of downloading it for me!
Here is the link to the HTMLib. It will explain what the library has to offer.

PS. If you have ANY questions, just ask. As I said, I LOVE making pages! -
Hey Kathy,
I do the web page for my Church also. I say do instead of design because I use Microsoft Publisher 2000. I was told at first I needed to learn the html language but just couldn't seem to get the hang of it. Using Publisher is real easy ... you can let the program do as much of the design as you want. If you want to see what Publisher can do go to: http://www.newhope-baptist.net

Hey guys, I'm here as a resource also. I know HTML and I can give you tips on Javascript (another more powerful computer language). I currently have a two websites and a message board (1 is my website and the other is a church website.
Until Next Post, Adam -

Great Website Stephen! Your church is like a mirror of mine...your statement of faith is IDENTICAL (not word for word mind you) as mine! Wow! Way cool! I like the design tho...how much does that program cost? Thanks!
Thanks to everyone else too, I may be bugging you here in the near future! LoL

Nice website. You might want to consider reducing the image sizes (the page will load faster) and add a link to Baptist Board.com

Nice site, Steven. A few ideas - try to use only 1 or 2 different fonts any given page, add your site to Baptist Top 1000.com to get more visitors, and add information that might be useful for people who've never been in your church. -
Kethy, I would suggest you check out this list: click here

Kathy, thanks for the kind words. Really neat about the identical Statement of Faith.
The program cost about $80.00 @ Office Depot (my favorite store). My wife uses it to do the Church bulletin and whatever flyers are needed and of course I use it for the web page. It's real easy to use and comes with a bunch of prefab designs you can change around.
Webmaster ... thanks for the compliment ... I try to stick with New Times Roman and just change the size, bold, and italic, but sometimes I forget and let another font slip in. I'll have to think about the Baptist 1000. I think one of the things you have to be careful about is just what you put on a Church web page. I would hate for something to effect the tax exempt status.

Fantastic!
This is a great thread! Sorely needed!
Allow me to introduce "Don's Theory of Computers and Computing": If I don't have to pay for it, I ain't going to.
To that end, I've managed to come up with ALL kinds of free resources to create web sites, images, etc. They're out there; you just have to find them.
Currently, I use 1st Page and Arachnophilia. Both require that you know HTML. 1st Page isn't very "novice" friendly. Arachnophilia is also known as "careware" (Instead of paying for the program, you do something nice for someone).
If you're looking for quick and easy, to get you started, use Frontpage Express. Seriously. It gets you into the "idea" of how the stuff works.
For a good "tool set," you'll need an editor, an image creator, and an FTP client. Several different choices.
For image creators, there are free resources; but none of the free ones come close to comparing to what you can buy. Photoshop is probably the best, but most expensive. Paint Shop Pro is affordable, and does nearly as much as Photoshop (about $70).
For FTP clients, you can use Internet Explorer, WS_FTP Lite, or CoffeeCup Lite (I don't recommend CoffeeCup; it doesn't work very well with navigating subdirectories).
Perhaps a special thread or section on how to use certain programs? -
Hey Don ... good point! There are a lot of free programs on the net. I see you mentioned a graphics program. I found a good free one here http://www.serif.com/photoplus5/index.asp
It does everything I need. I also use WS_FTP Lite to upload my web page (that I create with Microsoft Publisher) to the server. I just remembered another program that I use alot and is Shareware is ACDSee.

Unfortunately, that picture was one of the things he changed. The one I had was smaller, was blended in with the background and was also split up a bit more. He also uses Frontpage Express to work on the html I sent him. It has a tendency to change tags and other things... :(
I'm going to be sending you the url to the other site I designed as well as the url.

If any [Baptist] CHURCH needs a website created for them, I'll do it for free. I can also get you free domain hosting, if you feel the need to get a domain. I have two church sites already done, as well as my personal site [a Christian Search Engine] and I'm working on a Christian Media site as well. The links are below:
New Hope Baptist Church - my home church
Gilead Baptist Church
iChristianWeb.com - my personal site
iChristianMedia.com -
Kitty-Kat, I have NO clue, though I do have my own web page . . . with my own domain name! (www.pricelesswoman.com) . . . LOL . . .
Seriously, I use FrontPage Express, type everything in, and hubby takes care of the piddly, boring, boring, boring details that actually are needed to get the thing on the web! I am s-l-o-w-l-y learning how to do more and more, though I think I'm too creative to be turned loose with so much valuable knowledge of web page mechanics. :D -
Kathy,
I'm no expert but here is a link to a site I designed and currently maintain.
GirdleyGrowers
I started out 'hand-coding' 'H'ate 'T'hat 'M'essy 'L'anguage but it was taking too much time. So I purchased Micro$oft'$ FrontPage2000 ©. I am really pleased with the results. FP200 © would be the easiest and quickest way to start web page composing without really knowing much about designing a web site.

Kathy, if I may. When I began creating my church's website, one of my first concerns was what may be displayed on a banner add at the top of the page. I would recommend http://www.truepath.com who has 8 MB for free and an easy creator. put into your search engine browser "free Christian web site". Make sure you use the quote marks around it and then go look at a sample site so as to avoid embarrassment.
Also, much of my web page designs I do in Microsoft Word on the MS Work Suite disc.I have been very happy with the results I get. My church's site is http://members.truepath.com/fubc/entrypage.html and I think my most effective page to date done in MSWord is at http://www.churches.net/churches/fubc/historianreport.html.
I would also note that I have aquired almost 60 MB of good disc space without spending a dime and one site for churches offers UNLIMITED space to churches. It's easier than you may think. Glad you asked - Clint
The free unlimited site is http://crossspot.net/cgi-bin/web/manager.cgi/english
