"Tom made a mistake, which he has openly acknowledged.
He has not excused it, nor do I," Obama said.

Please, Mr. Obama, tell us when you decided not to excuse his mistake.
Did you decide to not excuse it when it became public, even though your team should have discovered it during the vetting process?
Or, did your team not discover it in the first place?
There seems to be an inordinate number of mistakes happening where members of your cabinet aren't being properly vetted.
Regardless of whether one agrees with your ideologies or not, these kinds of key mistakes shouldn't be happening.

It is another unfortunate demonstration of a lack of character and integrity from Obama. Obama should have withdrawn Daschle's name and insisted on higher standards. He didn't. It shows that Obama is about politics as usual ...

My understanding is that Daschle has additional tax problems... something to do with undeclared consulting income.
Someone was paying him $86,000 per month for "consulting".
He probably decided to bail rather than to have to pay more back taxes.:tonofbricks:

He should have hung in there.
He would have eventually been confirned to a post where he could cheat not only the IRS, but the taxpayers as well.
The really good part about Obama's love affair with tax cheats is...
that they are paying what they owe in order to be considered.

One down, two to go. We shouldn't let the pressure up yet. I want NO tax cheats in his administration.

It looks like the DNC faxed talking point for Daschle is that he's a "nice guy" and it's "too bad" because he would have made a "good head of HHS".
How can a tax cheat be considered a "nice guy"?

This is great news!
Will the IRS now go after him for interest and penalties like they would the rest of us?

Two down, two to go....:saint:
Nancy Killefer withdrew from consideration to be the federal government's chief performance officer -- a new position -- because of her past failure to pay unemployment taxes for household help at her D.C. home.
"I recognize that your agenda and the duties facing your chief performance officer are urgent," Killefer wrote in a letter to President Barack Obama Tuesday. "I have also come to realize in the current environment that my personal tax issue of D.C. unemployment tax could be used to create exactly the kind of distraction and delay those duties must avoid. Because of this I must reluctantly ask you to withdraw my name from consideration."
Killefer has been a senior director at McKinsey & Co. and worked in the
Treasury Department during the Clinton administration.
Obama created the chief performing officer position to set performance targets for federal agencies and hold managers responsible for reaching these targets.

My son said he heard the comment "What good will it do to cut taxes if the liberals don't pay theirs?"

The conservative plan for tax policy: official tax cuts for the rich.
The liberal plan for tax policy: "under the table" tax cuts for the rich.
