It is not neccessary to defend the KJ, just as it is not neccessary for a soldier to defend his weapon.
In battle when he fires his weapon it will be effective, on the other hand if it is not a real weapon it will be of non effect.
As children we used to play war and go "bang! bang! you are dead" and the one "shot" would fall down and play dead. With the modern versions a lot of people are "playing dead", this is why there is no spiritual life in many lives of professing Christians.
The Bible needs no defense as it is a weapon of offense to those who are lost and a defense against a sinful life for those who are saved. Many are caught up in sin because they don't use the weapon of offens against sin in the life. Bible study and prayer. Too many depend on man's books to feed while they should be feeding on the word of God.
Many here quote books written by men to attack the KJV. How foolish. As for me I will stand with the KJV and trust the "old book" to nourish my soul and prvide me with the weapon for warfare against Satan.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Ernie! Where have you been?

Isaiah 55:11
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. -
There is a difference between huntin partridge with a flint-lock and a modern rifle, even though the results are the same.

(Love my old King James of 1945, and my newer model called the NIV) -
"...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the KJV." (Ephesians 6:17b NASB)
Oh wait, my bible doesn't say that. It says, "...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." Last time I checked, my NASB is considered the Word of God, and I believe it's a pretty sharp sword.
God Bless!!!

Excellent point. "Questioning" the KJV translation of God's Word into Jacobean English IS NOT an "attack" on the Bible.
I personally find it a tragic shame that instead of "defending God's Word", the focus even of this thread is "defending a translation" of God's Word. A fallible translation made by men is somehow equated with the infallible inerrant Word of God. Sad. -
A hearty amen Ernie.... I love the good old King James Bible and its all i use. It was what i first started using back in 1973 when i was saved and i never saw a need to pick up anything else. If that makes me a King James only person. Oh Well! The rest of you feel free to read what ever version you want. As for me and my house we choose the KJV! Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17 God Bless ThyWordHaveIHid

and there's a further difference between a Roman sword and a flintlock

Dr. Bob, would you agree that the KJV is really Elizabethan or earlier, especially the New Testament, which is predominantly Tyndale's translation?
-
Old and New, the AV1611 is simply a revision of earlier English Bibles. All of them reflect Elizabethan/Jacobean English language and grammatical structures.
Wouldn't expect anything else. I personally LOVE that language, the lilt and flow for public reading is unmatched.
And I defend the Word of God and ALL of its faithful translations into any language. Thank God He has not left us without His Word!
