John 11:42-50 is authority enough to reject the false notions of belief in Christ alone as adequate grounds for redemption. Denying one denies the other, as Jesus says.

Does anyone still think George W. Bush is saved?

John, did you read where I said it is equally offensive to say we worship the same God as the jews? Well, it is that offensive.
-
Does this person claim to be a Christian:
Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people."
-
A mormon, catholic, or jehovah's witness could embrace the exact same thing. Do you want to argue that they are christians also?

For those who may care the quote I cited above was made by Adolph Hitler. He was not a christian but said he was.

We could expand this a bit, too, and ponder whether jews and christians worship the same God.
The answer, of course, is yes. However, the jews worship God the Father alone, and so have an incomplete view of God as He is. In time, as Paul says, they will eventually come to a full understanding of God as He really is.
As for muslims, they claim to be worshipping the same God as Abraham did. In that way, if you want to read it a certain way, then yes, we christians do worship the same God as the muslims do. However, we would see their worship of God as all wrong because they do not see God correctly. So if one really wants to be generous, then one can say, without denying one's christian faith, that we are worshipping the same God. Just that we are getting it right, and they do not. Same God, but not the same worship.
All the more reason to keep preaching the faith to muslims, even if it is dangerous in some parts of the world.
And as for George Bush being saved, I believe that only God can truly know that. But from what I've read (GQ article a couple months back), and from some of his conduct at church and prayer gatherings, then I would be encouraged to say I believe so.

I think that is up to God who really knows, not us, who have no real idea at all, but like to think we do, our opinions are always biased one way or another, we base anothers salvation on how much we like them or agree with their persoanl christian or political views.
If only God knows for sure who is saved and who is not that makes it wrong(sin) for us to decide who is saved and who is not. If only God knows, then by judgeing others salvation we are playing god.
Salvation is by grace to many times people claim they believe that, but apparently only for themselves, they turn around and judge others, not based on God's grace, but again on political or christian views. Which ammounts to works based salvation.
Let God be God, you be who you are, a sinner saved by grace, just like the rest of us. When you understand grace, you understand you have no room to judge anothers salvation. -
I think it is pretty straightforward. -
it makes me proud to see everyone ignore the scripture I quoted as supporting the concept that to deny Christ is to deny God......makes one wonder.

I didn't ignore you, Jim1999. You are correct.
Matt.15
[8] This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
[18] But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Luke.6
[45] A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

I don't believe that President Bush is unsaved by making that statement---rather he is uninformed and uneducated in true theological issues that divide the Sons of God from the sons of Belial--that is, the sons of the devil himself!
Brother David -
I don't know if he is saved or not. I only know that he doesn't act like it, so if I were a betting man... -
Okay, suppose Mr. Bush told the absolute truth.
(Millions of Muslims would gladly kill me for this, but it is the truth as I see it)
"Islaam is a false religion and Muhammad was a lunitic."
We all know what the reation to such a statement would be. Is he being overly conciliatory to the Muslims? Yes. Is he making false statements about worshipping the same God? Yes. But this person is not the average Joe expressing his opinion, he is President of the United States, who is trying to find peacefull ground with this people under difficult times. I for one will not throw stones at him. -
I disagree.
He could have, and should have, said something like:
"As a Christian I believe in the Triune God, the Father, Son, and Holy spirit. This differs from the Moslem concept of Allah."
It had to be dishonesty or heresy. Take your pick. -
P.J.
Thanks for the reply. However, for a U.S. President, trying to be diplomatic with Muslims, that, next to branding their religion false and their prophet a lunatic, as I said, is absolutely the worst thing to say to a Muslim. I am no expert on Islaam, but I understand that they regard belief in The Trinity as the unforgivable sin. Person-to-person witnessing to Muslim, that may be fine. But for a head of state to say that, he would only shut them off.
I wish that the President would mention The Lord Jesus more, but it would have to be along the lines of "The One that you honor as a prophet, we also honor, howbeit to a different degree."
It would have been very true for Paul to have said, "You are a bunch of idiots to worship these dumb idols." How many would he have been able to reach? No, he would find a starting point, something they could relate to and go from there. -
If you read the account, his comment was actually unsolicited. The question did not require it to be part of the answer. He volunteered it unnecessarily. So, I think he actually believes it.
As to offending the Muslims, I disagree. Why would they be offended that we would point out that we serve different gods? They emphasize it all the time, and are proud of it.
Would you want a Muslim trying to tell you that his god is the same as yours? I wouldn't expect it.
Probably they come to the same conclusion as I did...Bush was either being a phony or a heretic, and thay probably would have preferred an honest answer. -
I think there are three possibilities here...
George knows nothing about God...
George knows nothing about islam...
George knows nothing...
*adjusts asbestos arson abating apparel* ;) :D
Richard Land said George isn't "theologian in chief". True, but surely any Christian would know a bit better than that? I doubt Benny Hinn could get a line that bad...
Jailminister, I almost fainted when I saw who your quote was from.
Watchman, I think George being President of U.S. is all the more reason for him to be fair dinkum. Diplomacy and/or a starting point is great, but not at expense of truth with a line like that.
The O.T. Prophets and Kings who were on the LORD's side were never politically correct in dealings with Baal/Asherah/Dagon.
Isaiah 45:18
At least George made himself one friend with the line...
