Please allow me to digress from the "great debate" for a moment and ask a question!
I have watched some of the endless discussions/debates going on here (and on other boards) between KJVO's versus other translations. And then I see debates about which VERSION of KJV is the best.
WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? IF YOU ARE SAVED, WILL WHICH BIBLE VERSION YOU USE AFFECT WHERE YOU SPEND ETERNITY?
Let's say, like me, you are NOT a Bible scholar and you do not read (nor have you studied) Greek and Hebrew languages. What difference does it make as to what version of God's Word you read and understand?
Just so we're clear, I was raised on KJV because that was just what we read years ago. A lot of my scripture memory is from KJV. But in today's culture, it is probably difficult, at best, to understand. My pastor uses NIV from the pulpit and our pew Bibles are NIV. He feels that is an easy translation to understand. Our Sunday School classes use NIV in an effort to be consistent, churchwide. Another pastor at my church thinks The Message is great to read for devotional time.
I would think NIV, or any other translation for that matter, must be OK because people are getting saved in my church and we read from NIV. So...what exactly is the problem with translations other than KJV? Please don't debate it here as there are many other threads in which to debate it. I am asking a serious question. I honestly don't understand what the deal is with KJVO-ism.
Thanks for your patience with me!
