We have one every other year. Mostly it is from the SBC, but we also support other mision organizations and they are represented.

We have one every other year, and will be having one this year the end of Sept. & first of Oct. called On Missions

What's a "missions conference"? Our church does a mission trip each year...is that the same thing?

Does this help? And how can a Baptist not know what a missions conference is??? -

That would explain it then. I've been SBC since I was 6.

We have a large one every year and a couple of smaller ones throughout the year.
We just finished up with our 18th Annual World Missions Conference, followed by an International Banquet. We had missionaries speaking from Thailand, Mongolia, Guam, Tanzania, Africa, Bahamas, and Christian Radio International.
I couldn't begin to list all the missionaries we support. We support a LOT. -
Sorry, but I would need to ask what is meant by a mission conference. Ah! I have just seen a reply from Friend of Spurgeon to this very question. (Incidentally, he asks how a person can be a baptist and not know what a mission conference is. Simple - live somewhere outside the United States. Then a person might guess at what an American might mean by a mission conference, but he might guess wrong :) .) Our church certainly has services at which someone from a particular area of missionary work speaks. (Sometimes they are special services, midweek or on a Saturday, other times a regular Sunday service). For instance, in recent months we have had a speaker who is involved in the radio outreach of Grace Baptist Mission, one from SASRA (the Soldiers and Airmen Scripture Readers Association) and one from the Dorothea Mission. If you are interested, find out more at the following three sites:However, we didn't call the meetings "conferences", and they are one-day events.
Our main support as a church is for the work of Grace Baptist Mission. -
A mission conference is usually an annual event, lasting for a week.
During that week, we have missionaries (that we support) speak every night (a different one each night). They educate us about the country they are serving and bring us up-to-date on what they are doing.
We finish up on Sunday with a World Missions Banquet after church with food from the countries the various missionaries represent. -

We do missions conferences when we have a few missionaries in town. Not all of ours come back at the same time but we WILL have a missions focus if one is in town. We actually had 2 months of 2 of our missionaries home the whole time and it was a great blessing.
It's been a few years since we had a true missions conference, though. It would be great to do one again soon! -
How can there be less than one time a year...and not no times a year? Can you have .5 mission conferences a year?

Another popular thing right now is to have a missions month. A different missionary is invited to each Sunday or Wednesday meeting. I think for smaller churches this works well so they don´t have to house and feed 4 families for a whole week.
Many of you in the SBC posted that you have missionaries come in that you support. For the Independent Baptist churches you may have one or two in that you already support come, but also included will be a few that are trying to raise the funds needed to get on the feild. -
What's nice is that when they DO come, we have an empty house for them. We purchased a house that was next to the church and we needed that property to get more parking. We had some other property across the street and so we moved the house to the other lot and then made the parking lot. The house is now available for missionaries and visiting pastors to stay in. This way they have their own "space" and they've all said it's a blessing in this busy day and age. They still go to homes for meals and such if they wish but they can also take the time to just rest and recover for a while in their own place. :) -

Once a year with a guest speaker, and with one or more of our supported missionaries.

I wish more churches would do this. It is wonderful to fellowship but just like the church members need a place to just "let their hair down" after a good meeting, so does the missionary.
