I don't know if anyone else noticed this or not but on this past week's In Touch broadcast Dr. Stanley sat down to preach. It did not look like he had hurt his foot (etc) or anything like that. Does anyone here know why he was sitting down? Is his health failing? Or is it a new style his is trying out?
I was shocked because he usually has so much energy.

I am not a Charles Stanley fan; however, I was watching him last weekend. What I got out of his explanation was that he had fallen, but not really hurt. I don't know whether he was preaching at the time of his fall or not. He said that those around him had requested that he sit during most of his sermons to prevent him from falling again.
Others may have more and better information that I. -

He is 77 years old. Hope it's nothing serious as well.

I like Dr. Stanley and had seen him sitting to preach and wondered the same thing about his health.

Dr. Stanley has been sitting for the last month or so. He had hurt one foot and at first it was wrapped or in a support of some sort. I do not remember whether it was due to injury or needed surgery. I watch him often, as he is solid in the Word and very insightful.

This subject has probably been around a thread or two, but what about that? Does it not fly in the face of (IOW) violate the clear criterion which qualify a man for Pastoral service? -

My husband was just 45 when he first started having to sit down in church. He broke his foot and was non-weightbearing for 5 months. Since then, he half sits and half stands when he leads worship and had up until recently sat when he spoke. We'll see how he does in the new church but I think we'll be getting a comfortable stool for him just in case. His foot was so badly damaged that he has significant pain all the time so sometimes it's just more comfortable to sit than to stand for 40+ minutes.
I'm glad to hear that Dr Stanley doesn't have anything more serious than a foot injury but those things can be a bear as well! -

Charles Stanley is NOT remarried.
Anna Stanley filed for divorce in '93 and '95, but both times they tried reconciliation. She filed for divorce again in '98 and a judge declared them divorced in 2000. The grounds were, in her words, a "broken marriage".
This information is found readily anywhere on the net and one does not have to take a shot in the dark guess about it.
As long as Bro. Stanley remains celibate and does not seek a mate, he can remain in the pulpit. -
'Heavens to Mergatroid,' no! We don't want to take any mean old biblical stands against such nice ol' preacher fellers! God needs Dr. Stanley! His Word and His church could not go on if he left! I am sure there are many more ways we can twist the purity of the scriptures around just so's we can have us a nice ol' preacher man that we like! Qualifications has nothin' to do with it! What would we do if every time a preacher ran into a disqualifyin' situation - we just up and held him to God's standards! Why, they wouldn't be any left in the pulpit and how would God get His work done then?
