To His glory. He'll speak through an ass as well, doesn't mean we should put them in positions of authority.

That is the funniest comment I have read on BB, and one of the most true. I actually laughed at loud, which is not a common occurrence. Thanks!

I wonder what Deborah, the prophetess and judge of Israel, would say about this debate.

She would probably gag.
And, oh, by the way, Deborah was not a spiritual leader and judge, she was a political one.
At more than 20 pages I wonder if someone already said that.

I wouldn't mind, personally, being under a woman president of the country, or a woman president of a company, or a woman team leader in the company I work for, or a woman patrol leader.

I will mind being under a woman pastor, or being preached at from the Bible by a woman in a church setting.

No doubt she would

It is just hard for me to get past:

Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

Cutter, Shotgun willy, that kid what's his face, YOU Rufus...specific enough?
And comparing the way women talk to an ass? Yeah, funny. I feel very sorry for the women in your lives, if any (I doubt it). Way to alienate prospective female church goers. I'd run, not walk, from your churches!
By the way, I specifically answered Cutter's question about National security, and he blew me off. Obviously NOT the answer he wanted to hear!

Did Deborah fulfill that or did she lead them to a great victory for God's glory?

Well that's the spirit Sopranette. I wasn't really asking for you to get specific on your name calling but I'll give you bonus points for boldness!

I didn't and don't compare the way women talk to an ass. Placing a woman in a position of authority is akin to taking a donkey and saying "alright you're in charge now because one time in the Bible, God used a donkey". It was a response to the Deborah argument, not an apply this comparison to every woman that ever stated something.

I feel very sorry for the women in your lives, if any (I doubt it).
Wow. Down kitty, kitty...please extract your claws from my arms. I'm not gonna get into the details of the women in my life other than to say the one that is in subjection to me...we get along quite well and I'd dare say she's awful happy to be in service to the King of Kings by being a help meet to me. The others that I know that are in subjection to their husbands, we get along quite well, for I respect them and treat them as though they were my mother or a sister in all purity. The rebellious ones...they don't seem to like me much for if I say just the slightest thing that runs opposed to their women's liberation doctrine...the claws come out and the emotions are unleashed :)

Way to alienate prospective female church goers. I'd run, not walk, from your churches!
Well of course I'd rather you didn't, but I expect you're right.

I'll take it up with him at our next He-man, woman hater club meeting.

Romans 2:29

"Being filled with all unrightousness, fornication, wickedness, covetouness, MALICIOUSNESS; full of envy, murder, DEBATE, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Backbiters, haters of God, DESPITEFUL, proud, boasters, inventers of evil things, disobetient to parents (Mothers, you may think),
WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING, covenant breakers, WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION, IMPLACABLE, unmerciful..."

"But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." - Romans 2:29

Did you forget that passage in Isaiah is due to rebellion by Israel?

And did you forget that Deborah got to lead when Israel was in rebellion?

So yes, she did fulfill that. Good choice of words!

First an ass, now a cat. Just when I think the sexist comments can get no worse, they do.

Real men don't have to subjugate women to be masculine. Real Christians don't pick & choose passages, twisting them to prop up their misogyny.

Agreed on the first part, but sadly you are mistaken on the second. All kinds of actual saved people do just that. For those of us trying to use the Whole counsel of God it is disheartening, but there are plenty of real Christians that won't.

That's swell MP. Now I'm not a "real man" or a "real Christian". I can add that to your misogynistic, belong in Saudi Arabia, racist, dinosaur, woman hater, and bigoted diatribes and combine 'em with Sopranette's despicable, sad, angry little group and we've got ourselves one feisty emotional gaggle of women that can't seem to argue their points based on scripture but are prone to ad hominem and name calling. Now you're going to hold the cat comment against me because of my response to Sopranette's allegations that there are no women in my life because of my views? Well, this is just making me tired. I've got an idea. How about you get your husbands and we can have a critical, non-emotive, logical, Biblical discussion about this issue?

As I read the scripture, the only office in the modern church that is prohibited to women is the office of the pastor. I am not even sure about the office of the pastor as the new testament does say that women will prophesy in the last days - as they did following Jesus's death and resurection.

I dont see Paul dealing with women in the workplace, and the ideal woman in the Proverbs sold goods and managed the home.

I can understand women (and men)wanting women to be home while the children are young - but the best predictor of a woman on antipsychotic drugs is an empty nest woman with not enough to do to keep her mind occupied.

I for one am happy that my bride of 26 years has an occupation that keeps her fulfilled in a way that she would not be if she were still at home. With the divorce rate the way that it is, you can bet that I am encouraging my daughters to have careers that they can fall back on if the men they marry should turn out to be bums or worse.

24 pages seemed like the right place to jump into this thread :)

It is your own words that have branded you. As Abe Lincoln said, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt".

See, that would have more "umph" to it if you got it from the Bible.

Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Now who seems so foolish?

If Isaiah and Corinthians don't apply to MP, surely Proverbs don't either. I'm sure that Proverb only applied to ancient Israelites or some other "historical context".

A lot of men led while Israel was in rebellion, was that God's judgement? Why are you guys picking Deborah out of all the judges as a sign of God's judgement. It is obvious she was God's woman for the hour.

So.... what's your point?

Your emotional hot headedness is just why I would not want a woman as head over men.

That said, men do not have the soft heartedness to do what God requires of women.

I could not do my wife's role well at all.
She could not do mine well.
