For those on the BB who "cruise" or have close relatives or friends that have cruised, I'd like your impressions on:
(1) Favorite Cruise Line (and why it topped your list
(2) Favorite Cruise Destination (again, why you placed it first

(1) Favorite Cruise Line (and why it topped your list
"I'm tired of listening to this, I'm goin' for a cruise, feel free to continue yelling at the wall, as it's going to listen about as well I would if I stayed."
Because it's about the only time I use the word "cruise"
(2) Favorite Cruise Destination (again, why you placed it first[/QB][/QUOTE]
Usually the church on Route 42, where the parking lot is empty and I can park and pray or listen to the radio and be alone.
:D
Well, nobody ELSE answered!

Sheesh, I need a love offering. I'm just a poor Southern preacher who has never been on a cruise :D
Someday I hope to go on an Alaskan cruise. Now that Thomas mentioned Mexico though, that interests me. Only been to Mexico on mission work though. -
Gina - You sound like you NEED a cruise or at least a vacation. When you get old and gray like us, you will see how silly your comments were.
Tom - Cruising is NOT an expensive vacation. It is "all inclusive" (no hidden charges for meals, etc). Get a price, tax, tips, port charges = $750 a person; $1500 for a couple.
Now that includes 7 nights lodging in a lovely room with an ocean view and full amenities. All food (10 meals a day and unlimited room service 24/7). Activities, movies, programs, games, pools, hot tubs, or just time on the lido deck reading or soaking rays. Vegas style shows and entertainment. Casino and lounges (if you're into that scene). And exotic ports of call where you can go and shop, or take tours or a taxi (they would be added cost).
And treated like kings and queens. Most romantic time in life.
Now what would it cost the 2 of you for 7 nights in a Holiday Inn? 2400 miles travel? Just 3 gourmet (not McDonalds) meals a day? Shows? Activities? Taxes and tips? -
The closest I've been to taking a cruise is floating down the river in a jon-boat :D
But Alaska does sound like a lot of fun. -
Dr. Bob: When you get old and gray like us, you will see how silly your comments were.
Gina: I got the gray down, just not the old. ;)
Silly? Yah, but I did listen the first 5 years, then spent a few more in a daze absorbing what it all meant, then the by the last year my poor little brain just went...well, silly!
As far as a real cruise, I can't even go to the grocery store on the other side of town without getting nauseous from the ride...I wouldn't go on a cruise if they PAID me! I never really did get the whole travelling thing anyways. WHY??? What's the draw in going to weird places where people are just the same only you can't tell them so because of the language barrier, and they eat weird stuff you can try at home or in a different restaurant if you felt the need, and you can always look at pictures and videos if you just gotta know what somewhere else looks like.

Gina, can you say "dramamine?" :D
-
Dr. Bob,
You must have a great travel agent. I've never seen one that inexpensive. I'll look further though. -
RE: Dramamine
The most common side-effect of dimenhydrinate is sedation which can vary from slight drowsiness to deep sleep, and including inability to concentrate, lassitude (lack of energy, fatigue, lethargy), DIZZINESS, hypotension (LOW BLOOD PRESSURE) muscular weakness and inco-ordination. Other side-effects include gastro-intestinal disturbances (affecting the stomach and intestines) such as NAUSEA, VOMITING, diarrhoea or constipation and epigastric pain (pain in the upper, middle region of the stomach). HEADACHE, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), elation and depression, irritability, nightmares, anorexia (lack of appetite), difficulty in micturition (passing of urine), dryness of the mouth, tightness of the chest and tingling, heaviness and weakness of the hands may occur. In infants and children it may act as a cerebral (brain) stimulant. Symptoms of stimulation in adults include insomnia (inability to sleep), nervousness, tachycardia (increased rate of heart beat), tremors, muscle twitching and convulsions (seizures and fits).

Sure I can pronounce it, but should I? :D
Let's see, I'm trying to AVOID the dizziness, nausea, vomiting and headaches, and my blood pressure is already low enough that whenever I see a new doctor they flip and think I must be going into shock...I have to purposely think of something scary to raise it so they don't send me to the hospital, lol!
Think I'll pass on the Dramamine...reminds me of the time I was taking this medication for headaches and after becoming quite ill read the side effects. #1 side effect: DEATH!
Some things just aren't worth it.
