Here's the rub: if Brown assaulted the officer, he committed a felony. Even if Brown got shot in the back (which we know is false), it's legal to shoot a fleeing felon.
This particular case is very sticky. Was the officer in fear for his life after being assaulted and then used more force than was necessary?
Did Brown flee and then turn around and charge the officer?
Did the officer have a bad day and escalate things improperly?
There are just so many possibilities, we can't make a judgment. Just because Brown pushed a helpless man shortly before doesn't mean he was stupid enough to assault an armed officer, but it does paint him in a bad light.
We know the best friend's story is false, and we know that friend has two arrest warrants out for him for theft and falsifying a police report. So we know his friend doesn't care about the truth, and we can't trust his account at all.
The evidence so far is heavily favoring the officer. But he could still be wrong. We just don't know.
On the other hand, even if the officer killed Brown in cold blood, we don't know if it was racially charged or not. That's what I'm upset about, that the media automatically made it about race, when they have zero evidence that it was.
I mentioned this the other day to someone. They couldn't believe that was the truth.
The media seems to get off on sensationalizing stories. It's like here in Atlanta during the winter. We get a dusting of snow and you start seeing all the alerts---"Winter Blizzard 2013"
or "Icepocolypse 2014".
For all the talk about the officer being beaten, no physical evidence has been produced as is usually the case to back up speculative claims.
That point said, hopefully this entire situation will deescalate and we can get back to a civil and prudent handling of the facts and issues in this case. Of course this will take time, but time in the legal matters is a guarantee of our due process system. It is one of our freedoms and we should be thankful for it. Officer Wilson needs to be heard, just as Michael Brown's side should be heard.
Hopefully this process will provide the requisite time and space to come the appropriate and truthful justice which is needed.
AMEN! Hopefully everything will quiet down and they can hold the funeral on Monday with no one grandstanding and stirring the pot. And then peacefully allow the process to play itself out without the media feeling the need to give a play by play of every side comment.
What in the world is racist about what he just said? I think some of 'you people' have gone off the deep end concerning the application of 'racism'. Are we no longer allowed to call a Cretan a Cretan?
The inner city black attitude in general stinks. Period. Consider me racist also.
Lol, oh I get it, the 'sisters' in my avatar are my wife
and our two daughters on either side; never thought that would be confusing. Trust me, I'm doing you all a kindness by not using my mug shot...:D
I laugh everytime I see your name because I got the impression that people thought you were a woman because of the avatar and upon first glance, "kyre" sometimes makes people think it's a different spelling of kara. It just kinda looks like it could be a girl's name.
But then you look at the whole thing and say KentuckY redneck is 100% dude because no southern lady would ever refer to herself as such.
I always assumed that was probably the wife and daughters.
....my most basic objections to the [over used] charge of 'racism' comes from my cherishment of our right to free speech, and the fact that the charge implies 'hatred' on the part of the 'accused'. However, I admit, preachinjesus has just as much right to voice his opinion that it was racism as JK has to refer to the deceased as a thug.
My apologies to you PJ if I seemed harsh or hasty in my comments; it's just that I've read enough of JK's posts over the years that in no way do I consider him to be hateful, and the same applies to you, I'm convinced that you also are not hateful.
