I am offended when people demand I change the practice of my faith because they claim to be offended by it.
I need to get me one of them bully pulpits so I can tell folk how offensive I find their being offended really is.
I'm offended when the dog stinks up the living room but you don't see me on CNN decrying dogs.
I'm offended when someone takes the last slice of pizza.
Now I'm gonna have to get me one of those blogs to vent my offense taken at pizza hogs.
"Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. Matthew 5:11 NAS77
Sadly, very little of what we experience is persecution.
Some how we got on this national bandwagon that if you do something I don't do I am offended.
I find fellers that wear their pants down around their kneecaps - so I have to get an eyeful of checkered boxers - offensive.
How does someone who wears their trousers a little further north seek redress?
You can't because sagging is free expression of a repressed youth blah, blah, blah....
Why prayer in secular government place? Bad tradition in my opinion. Better to have a moment of silence and allow each to pray or not pray in their own way if you're going to have anything at all.
If a lawmaker wants someone o pray or him, they have offices and churches to do that at.
"But that final invocation of Jesus Christ is a growing concern for Jewish members, according to Rep. Jim Waldman, D-Coconut Creek.
Minutes before session began, Waldman, who is Jewish, met with Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford, a conservative Christian, and told him that some Jewish members were offended."
not really anti-Semite on the part of kyredneck.
it's what the article stated.
and Waldman had been requesting an inclusive prayer for 7 years.
the other lawmakers were, in my opinion, just being bullheaded about it.
Jehovah is Jesus, and Jesus is Jehovah.
It wouldn't be bad to end the prayers in Jehovah's name, or in "YOUR holy Name".
ok, wrong choice of words on my part.
kyredneck wasn't being anti-semite as you accuse him of being.
he happens to not believe that God still has this present day Israel as the "apple of his eye".
so do I.
and I am not anti-semite.
I will take the side of Israel against anyone who wishes to obliterate it.
and in this issue, kyredneck pointed out that Waldman was a Jew who wanted to feel included in an all-inclusive prayer, so if anyone is taking sides, kyredneck is on the side of Waldman who did not ask that Jesus be denounced by those who believe in Him, only that the prayers be inclusive.
now, if Waldman was Muslim asking that prayers be addressed to Allah, that will be an entirely different' matter.
If He was praying to Mickey Mouse would you be offended or just realize these people are foolish? To me Mohammad is no different than Joseph Smith.....both are foolish. Foolish is
asking a local Pastor to pray and ask for a moment of silents at the name of Jesus.
If a person of the Muslim (substitute any recognized religion) faith offered a prayer in public and used those words (or similar related ones), I would not be offended. (possible exception noted: ie specific content (reason) for the prayer may be personally offensive.)
Why, you may ask.
Two points.
(1) God, our Creator hears all prayers uttered. He, in His infinite wisdom, will accept or reject each, in accordance with His will. Therefore, it is God, Himself, who may be offended. What reason do we have to be "offended", if a prayer isn't directed to/against us personally?
(2) This country was founded on the principle of freedom of religion. Period. If I expect the religious freedom to express the name of my Saviour in the public square, I cannot deny the same religious freedom to others.
Well not really. Some Christians rebelling against some other Christians isn't the same as founding a Christian nation. Had every chance to make it so and didn't. Don't believe Barton and his nonsense, he is not being completely honest.
