Utter nonsense. Did you notice that prices stabilized nationwide when we became the number two oil producer and the number one gas producer in the world last year? When did they start going up again? Hint: Think "unrest in the Mideast."
Read my previous response in this post.

And by the way, the U.S. uses nearly 19 million barrels of oil per day! To be exact, 18.89 million. So are you going to tell me California, the home of nearly 11% of the population, only manages to use a bit over ten percent of that in an entire month? You're really not very good at this ITL, and I'm beginning to think you really are as clueless as you post.

Apparently you are clueless that there is a ban in the U.S. on crude oil exports? No, gas prices started going up because US refineries started selling gasoline to other countries, to as you say "relieve their demand".

Not as clueless as a person that doesn't know the difference between crude oil and refined gasoline. Done here.

Said the guy who doesn't even know gasoline is measured in gallons, not barrels.

You should be done here. If you're going to argue, use proper terminology. And learn some facts.

Even if gasoline were measured in barrels -- it isn't -- 19 gallons of every 42-gallon barrel becomes gasoline. That means that every day, we use 8.55 million "barrels" of gasoline. That's 359 million gallons. California, at about 11% of the U.S. population, could be expected to use at least 11% of that, or 39.5 million gallons, and given the industry and number of cars in California, they probably use more than that.

Even so, note that's just under one million "barrels" a day. So they would use 1.5 million "barrels" of gasoline in a little over a day and a half.

Not in a month. Please give it up.

This morning I paid $3.56 a gallon (about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis)--that is just short of double what the same gallon cost under George W. Bush.

$3.65, which is also the national average. Unusual, because for years we've been 10 to 20 cents below the national average in the Kansas City area, depending on which side of the state line you buy. Kansas gas taxes are about 10 cents higher than Missouri's.

I know you asked for US prices, but thought I'd share mine anyway.

Naas (rhymes with place), So Kildare, Republic of Ireland - Saturday 5 July

$7.88 a gallon for petrol. Diesel is a little cheaper.
