It has been suggested that a person becomes "elect" by God when his genome (chromosomes, DNA, et al) line up a certain way.
This makes election to be less "capricious" - God just saying, "you, you and you I love; the rest go to hell".
It also would tie in to families - chances of the "right" factors in children of children of children of the elect, etc.
Odd thinking today. When I take a break from mowing the lawn, the brain keeps a chuggin' along!

Dr. Bob, I had to check my calendar to see if to day was April 1st.
This is the first time I have heard this silly "genetic election" theory. -
but what about angels that are the elect angels
is it spiritual dna? -
It's the vibration. It's addled his brain! LOL Stop sniffing those gasoline fumes Dr. Bob! ;)
God would have assigned the DNA so would still be saying... you I love, you go to Hell... you I love, you go to Hell.
Nope.... Freewill for me!

what do you think will compel some to believe and other no?
is this turning into a calvinist debate? -
Guess we could move this to the C/A forum but I had hoped just to get some gut reaction and not turn into a free-for-all.
-
No, Doc., this needs to be moved to the humor forum or better yet, do we have a forum for attempted humor.
-
Sadly, this is not a joke. This is a legit question.
-
In a way it sounds an awful like the nonsense called "British-Israelism" to me.
Also we see that the jews relied too much on, "We have Abraham as our father."
Besides, I agree with Diane and freewill. -

There may be a tendency for families to have generations of elect persons in their families, that may be a blessings of faithfulness and the power of God's word at work.
...I'm saved by grace...not works that any geneticist might boast about.

The familial nature of passing on spiritual truth is more of an organic process than a genetic one.
Perhaps I was born into a Christian family instead of a far off hut in Borneo with no gospel witness because I am of the elect? The election being a result of God's will specifically, not merely a result of the genetic selection that resulted in my birth.
Either way, God is in control of the outcome, his sheep hear his voice and they follow him.
The Bible does say that by the time of Christ's second coming, there will be converts from every tribe tongue and nation, seems to indicate a lack of genetic selectivity in the process of election.
I am like Dr. Bob, merely allowing the ol' supercomputer to crunch away after my mind numbing drive home through Memorial weekend traffic. A fascinating subject to think about. It is the question that drives us -
clearly if the version you have doesn't have it, it is an abomination! The Hiss of the Serpent even ;) -

My wife thinks this verse is found somewhere in Proverbs chapter 32, “the honorable husband”.
Personally, I think it’s in the book of Jobs.

And what did Job say to his wife? "You speak as one of the foolish women speak"
Had to be her nagging . . -
Genes can predispose you towards mental illness, including being unable to control your temper, I suppose. Don't forget we are not just genes, we are also the products of our environment.
The thing we parents have to remember is, regardless of how much envrionment vs genes determines the personality and morality of our kids, we parents are responsible for both!
