Alabama v Auburn
Although Army v Navy has a specialness about it. -
Michgian and Ohio State is the greatest.
-
Oklahoma vs. Nebraska used to be one of the premier rivalries, it's been a bit flat lately.
Virginia Tech vs. Miami is a younger rivalry, but probably has some staying power. -
Iowa vs. Iowa State
-
Pretty good list!
-
Syracuse and Penn State was a great one until Penn State DEMANDED that Penn have 6 out of 10 home games
-
FSU vs. Miami is pretty nasty
-
Penn State-Pitt
West Virginia-Syracuse
Lehigh-Lafayette(The MOST-PLAYED college series)
USC-UCLA
Georgia-Georgia Tech
Ole Miss-LSU
Indiana-Perdue(Especially at basketball)
Harvard-Yale
Louisville-Cincinnati(Both football & basketball)
Tennessee-Alabama
North Carolina-NC State(Football & basketball)
Norwich-Middlebury(2 military schools who fight a WAR each year!)
Grambling-Southern(Worth the price of admission just to see the BANDS, let alone the game!)
Texas-Oklahoma-Nebraska(Any combination thereof)
Kansas-Missouri
Augustana-Anyone in their division
SHORT LIST!
At this time, Ohio State-Michigan is the biggest. However, USC-Notre Dame could loom very large this year! A defeat of USC by ND could hand the title to Texas, or at least place Texas in position to play a BCS game for it.
STATE OF OHIO...Massillon-Canton Mc Kinley could be the biggest HS American football rivalry of all!
New rivalry, to begin next year...WEST VIRGINIA U. VS MARSHALL U! Believe me, it'll be worth the price of admission, or worth an afternoon before the boob tube, as they've been needling each other already, and will spare no passion on the field. -
How about the other USC. South Carolina vs. Clemson. I was born and raised (till 10yrs. old) in Pickens SC. That is a huge rivalry and don't forget it was the only one last year to come down to a brawl and fist fight. It is bad in SC. Go Gamecocks!!!

1. Being from Texas ... Texas vs. Oklahoma
2. Miami vs FSU vs Florida .. any combo
3. ND vs USC
4. Michigan vs. OSU
5. Tenn vs Florida -
Wow. I think you people need to do some research...
Alabama-Auburn, hands down. -
Don't think too much of the "regional" rivalries myself. Wyoming v Colorado State is the gigantic "Border War" and bet you all didn't even know it is on for this Saturday.
Not sure Wyoming knows, either . . .
That's where I put South Carolina/Clemson, Iowa/Iowa State, Minnesota/Wisconsin, or even Alabama/Auburn.
NATIONAL IMPLICATIONS, not the region nor the years, makes it the GREATEST.
(But as a University of Wisconsin alum, it was good to see them hacking down the goal posts in the Metrodome last Saturday with a stunning come-from-behind upset) -
Speakin' a' national implications...USC(de one out west) and Notre Dame had a barn-burner, dontcha think?
This rivalry started 1n 1926 with USC's legendary coach Howard "Head Man" Jones looking to fill an open date. Knute rockne heard about the opening & made a call to Jones, & the arrangements were made. This was the first time a Midwest team had gone West to play a Western team. ND won 13-12, and as ND prepared to leave, Jones said, "Now remember, Knute, you owe me a game!" Knute did NOT forget, and the two coaches became good friends till death did them part. I believe this is the 77th meeting between the two teams.(Someone correct me if I'm wrong; this is off the top of my head, which can be quite "holler" at times.} -
Albama - Auburn
OKLAHOMA - Texas -
My top three would be:
1. Alabama - Auburn
2. Ohio State - Michigan
3. Texas - Oklahoma
