As a Baptist Thanksgiving is a special holiday to me. The English Separatists split into two groups and one became the Mayflower Pilgrims and the other became the first Baptists so we share a common linage with the creators of the first Thanksgiving.
I’m in awe of that group of Separatists who were willing to risk so much in a new and perilous world where they would have to start with nothing and endure such hardship and depravity in order to worship their God as they saw fit. They were tougher than most of us.
At this time of year I often like to read from the Geneva bible to see the scripture in the same light which they understood it. To read the study notes in that bible and imagine how they must have resonated with their life experiences.
Thank God for those English separatists, the first Baptists, all the Baptists in succession since then and all those who will come in the future.
So as fellow Baptists I want to wish you all a happy, prosperous, and joyful Thanksgiving (yes even the futurists among you—you know who you are, LOL). May God bless you all (with what I feel like is the most Baptist of holidays) with a good one.
Happy Thanksgiving fellow Baptists
