One thing that amazes me is that the more educated you are, the more 'easy to read' you want your bible. Case in point, my brother in law graduated from Cornell, U of Mich and Princeton and uses the NIV. I dropped out of Jr high, went to HAC for half a semester and took one correspondence course and I can ready the KJV fine. Things that make you go hmmmm as Arsenio would say.
Have MV's caused more confusion than good?

So you "can ready the KJV fine" , can you ?
Before the TNIV it had been an established practice to bash the NIV . The custom has still not waned . However , the TNIV has gotten more maltreatment in more recent years .
The NIV is a fine version . It doesn't have a striking personality as far as versions go . But it has settled in as having some of the overall best qualities . Smart people already have determined that long ago ;) -
I still say we should eschew all Modern Versions, including the KJV, and return to reading the Greek and Hebrew.
If one Modern Version is evil, simply because it's a modern version, then they all must be. (This, obviously excludes such things as "Judith".) -
What happens to this thread if we define "modern" as any time after 1600 :)?
-
I say nothing after 1200. -

Technically, 1150 to 1450 is the Early Modern English Period, Roger, so we could go back before that.
What's your pleasure? Old English or Anglo-Saxon? -

No, MV's haven't caused more confusion than good.
MV's have caused more good than confusion
especially among those who understand that
what is being communicated by the Bible
is much more important than the form or format
of the communication. The Written Word of God
is the communication (software) of God to people,
not the exact words (hardware) which the person
being communicated to might understand best.
Ain't God Good! :saint: -
Amen, Brother Ed! Preach it!
MVs have clarified much confusion rather than creating more confusion. The confusion lies with those who refuse to accept MVs as the written word of God. -
Seconding that Amen!

And with that amen we are on page 20 and this thread is closed.
