All Men's Opinions, none of which can be solidly proven by scripture. Further more, The Bible we have today, ISN'T PERFECT. It's rant full of errors, the worst of them is the KJV.
Have the "gifts of the spirit" ceased?

If we throw out everything that has been abused we would be in trouble.
I am glad to hear you say that we should not attack individuals or denominations. There are a few people that are constantly slamming certain ministers and Denominations. I think it it is time for that to stop. Thanks for saying something Dr. Bob. -

(2) modern "tongue" movement violates many principles of God's Word. If the RULES (read Corinthians) were kept, 99.9% of tongues activity would cease.
(3) modern "tongues" began in the past century and were vitually unknown for 2000 years.
(4) bible "tongues" was a gift that was mentioned a couple of times in the Acts (for a sign), then in I Corinthians because of the carnal abuse.
What happened then? No tongues. None. Nada. Zilch. Done.
Why? That which is perfect was come! The WORD OF GOD. No need for some special word - we had THE Word.

As far as the Word of God/Bible being that which is perfect/complete, I believe that it is talking about the Bridegroom returning for His Bride, which is the rapture of "The Church" or the end of the Gentile dispensation.

MEE - you are "reading into" history your modern thinking. When someone from the early centuries is quoted as saying the "spiritual gifts" - you read modern glossalia, etc into it. Thtat is opinion.
The few instances of "tongues" that are recorded prior to the Azuza Street revival are by extreme heretical cults - sure you want to be identified with them? -
BTW, "Other Religions" allows folks from every Christian religion to participate - as opposed to the Baptist only areas.
Baptist still post and debate. Sadly, SAH just showed some of the most vile and unchristian conduct I have ever seen on the BB. And we have had some lulus in the past.
If he was your friend, I trust you will be able to keep contact elsewhere! -
I am undecided about the "tongues" issue, myself.
In my opion, people deeply given over to emotion tend to "exhibit" this more than those who are more intellectual. (I am not saying one temperment is better than another)What I mean is: A person't tempermant seems to be the qualifier.
If speaking in tongues is still current, it is most rare. -

Rosell,
Good to see there is another here that can rightly divide the Word of God!
No, the gifts have not ceased, they are still here and will be until the end.
But brace youself, there are those on the board that will argue UNTIL the end that the gifts are gone.
But praise God, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Working for Jesus,

With all respect, to use the "arguement" that Jesus is "the same yesterday, today, and forever" cannot be applied to this issue. Example: we are no longer forbidden certain foods. Does that mean that Jesus has changed?

There ARE guidelines for tongues in the New Testament. Many in the modern charismatic movement are repeating the error of the Corinthian church in my opinion.
God can do as He wishes, but not in a manner contrary to His Word. What I see and hear from a lot of charismatics is "well, that's your opinion," even if the Scripture is plain, "but my/or experience is..." That alone should set off alarm bells. That attitude sets your experience against Scripture. That qualifies as liberalism, neo-orthodoxy, or Roman Catholicism. Take your pick, but all three set experience over against Scripture. That is not evangelical Christianity, no matter what you say.
Finally, ecstatic utterance is very common in many religions. What passes for tongues today is usually ecstatic utterance. Since other religions share the same experience, that is a sure sign of the inauthentic nature of modern tongues in most, but not all, situations. How do we know the difference? By the rules in Scripture as Dr. Griffin says. -

If the posters cannot say anything about a particular person, shouldn't that go for moderators too???

I'm suprised your a moderator of this section, this ain't a Baptist section. this is the "other religions" section, as you Biased Baptist's call it, why don't you find your self over in the Baptist sections where you Belong? We don't post in your sections, why should YOU be allowed to post in ours? What does everyone think?Click to expand...
The other religions section is not for other religions only, it is a place for Baptists to discuss other religions and obviously a place for you to discuss other religions with us here on the Baptist Board.
Please check your pm's before you attempt to post again. I will send you one momentarily.

I am sorry that some saw this as an attack by a moderator on an individual. I have a personal policy of editing (if needed) the four-letter words and hate speech, then pm'ing the offender. I plan to continue this. -
Music 4 Him, please check your pm's.
I typed it in tongues, figure it out. ;) (j/k)
