NY, NJ and PA … can’t see the sun & my Asthma is in full swing. NYC has the worst air quality in the world right now. Told the Great Lakes area is in the same predicament

What is this, a premeditated attack from Quebec? 14000 miles of wild fire… unbelievable.

I guess it's dry up there too. Expecting/having a hot dry season here.

 

For the first time, planting my garden in parched ground with no rain in sight. Every morning I water it hopefully awaiting some type of rain storm. Each morning it’s about 45 degrees and I think global warming Confused

 

It’s incredibly smoky. My dog actually started coughing & wheezing. People who excersize and stroll are nowhere to be seen

 

Looks like how we spend every September through October. I can empathize with you folks I know exactly what you're going through.

We have wildfire smoke here in the Midwest, from Canada, 6-8 hours north, but nothing like that.

 

Visual proof that the fires were started at the exact same time, & a comment on it from a Canadian:

I live in Canada and it has not been warm or dry since spring started. There is no way the forests are dried out it is just not possible.

I live on Manitoulin Island in the Sudbury district and 10 fires broke out in Sudbury district of which 7 are burning out of control.

From what I see it is burning crops and animals likely done on purpose to make sure we have a food shortage here.

Even though I am a good hour and a half away from the nearest fire I still had to close all my windows last night because of the smoke.

I notice the fires started when this apparent wind storm we have started which is perfect to make sure they spread as far as possible.

When looking at the map it looks like all of Canada is burning. Its not Canada is huge but it sure looks that way.

Right now there are over 400 fires burning and more than half of them are out of control.

US firefighters have come in to help the Canadian fire fighters get this mess under control.

I cannot believe these Government pigs would burn down our beautiful Country.

I pray for the safety of all the fire fighters working and that no one loses their life over this.

Dr Malone substack? Always worthwhile. I like his personal stories about his farm too, the horses, chickens, dogs, etc. Having a lot to tend to sure helps one’s mental health.

 

Satellite imagery tracked widespread lightning late May/early June in central Quebec. The boreal/taiga forest is a fire-dependent ecosystem, though it's probably uncommon to have this many fires at one time. The dominant tree species there, black spruce, holds cones and some seed 10-20 years rather than dropping them the first autumn like most other spruces. Another significant tree there is jack pine, and its cones require heat to open and release seeds, either from fires or when clearcutting lays the cones on the easily heated duff surface.

 

Is the tree literally black in color? Guess I can google it.

 

The bark is dark brown, much darker than other spruce species, and the needles are a darker green.
