I like the "seniors making less than $50,000 from having to pay income tax." plan, even if it did come from Obama. But it would never pass greedy Congress. Now that baby boomers are headed down the golden years trail, time to give us a break. :)

 

It's difficult to actually put hard numbers on this because their plans are evolving. Plus, it's hard to improve on the tax burden on many low-income earners because thanks to Bush's EGTRRA. Obama's policies, which could unravel EGTRRA, would raise taxes then lower them to a higher point than they are now. So it all depends on the starting point. McCain and Obama are not starting from the same grid.

No one is doing anything about AMT. When will someone put forward meaningful AMT reform?

I agree with LE. While I can't see anyone being stupid enough to tick off seniors, a Dem pres with a Dem congress will try to hoard all the revenue they can for their smorgasboard of spending. The GOP had their own, they just didn't have the bloodthirst for the revenue :tear:

 

It will take both spending cuts and tax increases to get this $9.2 trillion debt under control. I have no problem with going back to the pre 1997 Clinton tax code.

I will have to agree with Obama on this one as well. of course I am for no income tax for anyone.

 

How do they compare??? Easy for me.

with Obama, I pay more (a lot more)

With McCain, I pay less (but still too much)

 

I don't support either proposal, but I would lean toward McCain. I am not in favour of Robin Hood tax policies.

Might I ask those who despise Sen Obama so much how they can support his tax policy? The only thing I can come up with is pragmatism.

I have not come across a single issue yet where I can support Sen Obama.

 

I don't despise Obama. I do despise his worldview and policies he wishes to put in place. Personally he looks like a likable guy. Politics aside. I don't trust any Republican right now on spending or taxes.

 

I agree completely, I just can't find a single area where I support any one of his policies.

One might pop up, but as for now even his "steal from the rich give to the poor" tax has no appeal for me.

It is more of his political pandering to the masses.

 

I believe he is like fire kindlin. It lights up easy burns bright and burns up fast due to lack of substance. The Dems should have picked the coat tail rider. McCain will be our next President.

 

Amazing how these substance issues fade away and the sensational ones thrive.
