    Back when I was in the pastorate in the late 1980s and doing a lot of funerals for the unchurched, I would usually receive a gift of $50-$100, which is comparable to $100-200 today. But that includes meeting with the family, planning the service, sometimes being there for the viewing (it is a great time to help people work through grief and share the gospel in word and deed), do the funeral and committal at the cemetery. There was only one time that I can remember that I did not get a financial gift from the family, and it wasn't any big deal.

    As I have always been fully employed - until I retired - I have never accepted gifts for preaching, except once at another church. Please give it to charity.

    That once I accepted £20 to pass on to our church & was also given a bag full of runner beans which I did accept & eat.
