Senate Democrats and Republicans are working feverishly with the White House to put the finishing touches on an immigration proposal that could be announced later today or tomorrow. The deal would give illegal aliens living in the United States amnesty, according to confidential sources. It would also allow illegal aliens to bring their parents, spouses and children into the United States.
Multiple sources on Capitol Hill with knowledge of the proposal said Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) has been able to extract significant concessions from Republicans. The critical part of the deal is a lengthy section that spells out the provisions related to “Z” visas -- or what my sources described as the “Amnesty Title” of the bill. The “Z” visas would be broken down into three categories as follows:
Z-1 -- Illegal alien present and working in the United States up to January 1, 2007
Z-2 -- Parents and spouses of illegal aliens qualifying under the Z-1 category
Z-3 -- Children of illegal aliens qualifying under the Z-1 category
Read on ...
One section of the proposal grants these “Z” non-immigrants four-year visas for an indefinite period of time. These visas would be given to people not currently in the United States if they are related to a current illegal worker.
Sources indicate that these aliens, along with their dependents, would be allowed to legally remain in the United States under certain conditions for an indefinite period of time, even if they chose not to pursue the so called “pathway to citizenship.”

Estimated to be 12 million granted amnesty. Thank your Congress - both sides of the aisle.

The President must be as giddy as a school girl! Talk about having your cake and eating it too ... he was able to get many of his policies and agendas pushed through during his first six years in office thanks to the party loyalty of the GOP controlled House and Senate. Now, he can work with the Democrats to push through those policies and agendas that the GOP Congress blocked during his last two years in office with the Democrats in control of the House and the Senate. :(

And the new law says that they don't even have to get on the "path to citizenship", so I guess assimilation will not be required! :BangHead: -
Congress has totally abrogated it's responsibilities concerning immigration.
This is sheer lunacy and a blatant attempt to enlarge their voter base at the expense of law abiding citizens and immigrants. -
My own feelings on the whole illegal immigration issue is found in the word Illegal.
Why is that so hard to understand? Round them up and send them back to where they came from and let them enter legally.
Here are some other people's opinions, some I suspect are illegal:

The estimated cost to the Social Security system alone is 12 to 20 Trillion dollars over the next 20 years. That's in addition to the already existing deficit. And we know how accurate the feds are with estimates.
Now add in free ed, free health.............. all paid for by who? Yep.

This looks like a done deal . I have called my senator (Blanche Lincoln) and expressed my views. Blanche Lincoln will most certainly support the amnesty bill, she is Hillary Clinton lite, yeecch!, that left a bad taste in my mouth. Our Congressman (John Boozeman) has been against amnesty but it is pretty much out of his hands but I called him up anyway to ask him to continue to do whatever he can. The democrats will give Bush what he wants in amnesty but will there be a trade off? Hmmm? I wonder. Anyway I'm just hoping and praying that the Kennedy/Bush Amnesty Bill does not pass. Republicans need to get on board and really rally against this Bill , it is that glimmer of hope that could help them win back Senate and Congressional seats that they lost in the last election.

An excerpt from an e-mail I recieved from Numbers USA:

It is amazing that Republicans support this bill. The vast majority of these new citizens will vote for Democrats. The Republican Party is committing political suicide by supporting this deal. Not that the demise of the GOP would bother me. That would be at least one good thing to come of this deal - the demise of a political party that has proven traitorous to the concept of limited, constitutional government while giving only lip service to it.

I've hammered away at my congresspersons and the president@whitehouse.gov.
I can tell you that what they are proposing is very similar to what the Germans came up with in the 1950s. After 10 years in Germany the "guest workers" were to go home. The majority came from Turkey, and never left. Their culture did not include clean streets, clean apartment house complexes, obediance to civil and traffic laws, and they quickly filled up the social welfare system. Total neighborhoods were trashed, animals were allowed to run loose, guest workers refused to learn the German language and did not understand the necessity of regular school attendance for their children. Most were Muslim. All efforts by the German parliament / Chancellor to remove them and to stem the tide of immigrants failed. As a result, the social welfare system the Germans were so proud of is crumbling, but the taxes necessary to support it (along with co-pays, something the Germans are really unhapy about) are increasing. The handwriting is on the wall for the USA. -
This "deal" is a disgrace to America and I'm deeply saddened over it!
What kind of nation have we become? It seems not to be the one my ancestors established! It seems not to be the one we veterans served! -
Been trying to tell ya that for awhile now Dragoon.

I, and many others like me, came to this country from thousands of miles across the ocean legally.
We had to go thru the system.
We had at times had to endure the insulting questions and insinuations of some US interviewers at embassies.
My wife had to scrape up money for the filing fees, the medical exams, and the papers needed, while she was earning just $7.50/hour. Think of the sacrifices she had to endure.
We sold a few possessions back home to scrape up the money for plane fare.
Now, with the stroke of a pen, 12 million illegals .......
You finish the sentence. I am gagging. -
Ron Paul's Border Security and Immigration Reform
Ron Paul's Border Security and Immigration Reform
"The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:
1. Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
2. Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
3. No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
4. No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
5. End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
6. Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods." (Source: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/html/issue-Border_fx.html) -

And my son was born in Oxfordshire and is a dual citizen so we had to go through more junk for that. I think he needs to make a decision at 18 and drop one of his citizenships... -

Just an example of how insulting and degrading some interviewers in some US embassies can be.
My brother in law works at a job earning a measly $9.00 an hour and misses meals oftentimes so he can scrape up the money for his wife's coming here.
He's 63, she's 33. He's divorced. She was single when they met three years ago.
During the interview, a consul (an interviewer) asked her how much she paid my brother in law to marry her so he can petition for her as the wife of a US citizen.
He relented only when she pointed out the fact that she was a Registered Nurse who had already passed the required exams for working abroad before she met her husband and if she wanted to go to the US she could without having to marry someone who was 30 years her senior.
I realize these illegals went thru dangerous journeys to get here, still it seems unfair to us who came here legally. -

I'm still surprised that they would have asked your wife those questions.
I thought they mostly do that to people from third world countries, especially those from the other side of the world who could not speak perfect English.
Again, thank you for your kind words.
