    I like Pastor Bob's method.

I will "push" once and if there is resistance I usually let go - that from experience.

Ya, I know Paul kept after his listeners (Felix, Agrippa).

I can assure you, I’m not.

Exactly. That’s the message to which I refer above. The mail man delivers my mail every day; he does not make me pay the bills.

You think that those who proclaim the gospel are that disconnected?

The Gospel call elicits a response.

I’m not sure what you’re looking for, Brian; so, let me just end with this - I do not believe that proclaiming the gospel messsage is a disconnection in any form or fashion.

Why don’t you cut to the chase and just explain the way you would do it?

    I already have.

We are invited to join Jesus. He invites us. We don't invite Him. Such teaching flips the creature/ Creator relationship on its head.

Then, why are you so incredulous that I don’t demand a decision every time I share the gospel message????

No. Not a decision. That's decisionalism, and I hate it. In fact, that is the point of the thread.

What I am saying is that we need to call men to action. A "therefore" is required.

Well I know in the church I grew up in that the preacher would say If you would like to join the church come forward and let your wishes be known and the church will wait on you... I never heard any say invite Jesus into your heart?... So my question is this... Is regeneration the cause of the invite ( if it isn't why did they come?) or is the invite cause of the regeneration?... Brother Glen:)

Same thing. They have to decide to act or not to act on what they have heard.

Oh, you mean like how Ezekiel 36 is written to the Jews and not to us? You mean like that, right?

1Th 1:4 KJV Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

If you are among the chosen of God, He will have His way with you.

Did Saul open the door of his heart and invite Jesus in?

If Jesus is knocking on the door of a spiritually dead soul, how can He expect a response?

Yes. They do have to decide. They have to decide from options given.

Exactly! Jesus, in Revelation 3 is addressing His church - believers.

Revelation 3:20 is one of the most misunderstood passages in the New Testament. It is seldom quoted in context, which skews its meaning.

Revelation 3:14-22: 14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:
15 ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, 18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

The passage begins by addressing a local church. The entire context of verses 14-22 pertains to that local church. Nothing in this passage indicates it is addressing an invitation to salvation. Jesus is knocking on the door of a lukewarm church, not the heart of a dead sinner. It is so obvious that any other interpretation strains credulity.

I couldn't agree more; however, we can count the rest who understand this simple truth on the left hand of a right-handed shop teacher.

Reading the Bible with the care and respect we would give any other text would help the Church more than anything else I can think of.

Most people, Uncle @HankD being a perfect example in this thread, treat the Bible like a personal basket of fortune cookies. They can take a half-sentence from anywhere and claim its meaning, independent of its context! This subjective interpretation is disrespectful to the Author, as it doesn't convey His intended meaning. It's extremely problematic as one could literally make the Bible say anything he wishes.

This is a HUGELY important subject. . . Hermeneutics.

So many think that they can read the Bible like a fortune cookie of disconnected thoughts, it needed its own thread.
