Maybe they'll blow themselves up with a nuke.

I don't think it's a mistake to confront radical Islamic terrorists in the Middle East. It was inevitable that our cultures would clash once progress and technology put us on more equal footings. America's division over our involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly in Iran and Syria is really the result of our inability to think like they do. We try to impose our value system on them as well as on ourselves, but they don't share our values. We think that if we hold the moral high-ground that reason will win out, but when both sides believe they possess the moral high ground, something has to give.
We perceive terrorists as being inhumane, while they consider us less than human (infidels). We look at them as peers, they consider us as dogs.
I have no doubt that given the opportunity, Iran, Iraq and most of the Middle Eastern nations would use nuclear and biological weapons on the rest of the world. The question is, do we protect ourselves first, or respond in retaliation to attacks here? No matter what our leaders do, they can't win. That's why I'd rather have leaders who believe in Christ, because God is the world's only hope. -
Next? Either the USofA or Israel nukes Iran.
-
While France, Germany and England wring their hands and the U.S. keeps a wary eye on Iran, Israel will take action.
That's my prediction, anyhow. -
With Iran's nuclear program spread far and wide, and buried deep underground, I doubt that a bombing effort would be successful. I imagine Iran learned the lessons well from Israel's bombing of Iraq's nuclear facility.
-
That will not deter Israel. They will still try.
-
Tensions will rise, weapons will be armed, peace activists will condemn the US and the UK, Iran will keep laughing, Israel will prepare to strike, the UN will implement sanctions, fuel costs will rocket, I'll be walking more, the UN will keep talking, while we mess around China's economy will boom, Iran will keep laughing, the rapture will happen, antichrist will bring peace...
Well, maybe.
But really. I think sanctions will be used and our economy's will suffer.
Will it go to war? Probably not. If we do it would surprise me if conscription had to come back. Almost without doubt Bush and Blair would not be in power much longer.
Our time could be short.

I'm not sure it would stop Israel, even if they did. Their existence as a nation is on the line. That's their whole idea, stop the Iranians before they have nuclear capability. -
Sanctions could include a halt to their shipments of oil, (huge) freezing of assets in world and American banks, (also huge) and best of all encouraging an already ready populace that is sick and tired of the Mullah's.
If that doesn't work real soon, bomb the facilities. Hopefully we(or Israel) has thos bunker buster things figured out. Deep penetration and a big bang should get their attention. -
Bomb Iran now and an already tense Muslim/Christian situation will go into over load!
I know the media in the UK has its bias, but from the news I see Iran has no problem with its people backing it's policys. The current preseident has even stated he wants Israel wiped off the map and the people love him for it.
Any use of weapons by the US or UK will not end as easily as the Iraq conflict. The Iraq conflict has been tough and suffered terrible loss of life, but it would be nothing compared to a war on Iran. -

November 4, 1979: Iranian militants seize U.S. embassy in Tehran, holding staff hostage for 444 days. President Jimmy Carter places an embargo on importing Iranian oil into the United States and freezes Iranian assets in U.S. banks. Touches off second oil crisis in the United States.( LINK )
And see how the U.S. economy performed after this date. It wasn't a pretty site. I lived through that awful time. I have no desire to see it repeated.

You think you could hit several sites within Iran with powerful weapons and it not be considered an act of war?
What it they sent suicide bombers to take out weapons research in the US and said, "We're not looking for war, we just didn't want you to have those weapons."
No, you hit those sites and you start a war.
By overload I mean millions of Muslims being tipped over the edge and turning to violence, not just in the Middle East but through out Europe and the US. -
Polls have shown that most Muslims believe that the U.S.'s war on terrorism is really a war against Islam. If we attack Iran, that will convince them even more. I believe that Islam has declared war on the West and has done so in the past.
That Iranian president is a fanatic. I read that he believes that he will be able to usher in the Mahdi (a Muslim mystical, messianic figure descended from Mohammed who will unite the Muslims. They believe he lived during the Middle Ages and is currently in occultation) in a few years. He's a Shiite Muslim, and they put more emphasis on the coming of the Mahdi than the Sunni Muslims do. -
Ken,

In another thread, you said:
This is smelling so much like the stuff we heard in the news from our "intelligence" sources before we went into Iraq in 2003. Remember, Saddam Hussein was rather bellicose himself even though he really didn't have WMDs.
Ken, surely you have read enough in foreign affairs to know that the concern over a nuclear Iran is legitimate and nothing new. Even your arguments (over 300 sites as you noted in the other thread) seem to confirm this. Is it a non-existent threat that is overblown by intelligence services, or is their program so spread out that we can't eliminate it? Which is it? -

To me the costs are justified in lives saved. Whatever the cost. If costs should rise above a certain level the oil Companies will start opening more exploration, and liberals under the control of environmental whacko's will be overcome, so drilling/exploration can be redoubled. -

We are talking a nuclear attack here. It would most certainly be much worse than what you are thinking. We are talking millions to total annihilation.
