Charley's last paragraph proved to me that he is a kook.
-
"Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are far too close to the oil industry to risk that kind of worldwide economic train wreck."
When will we get sick enough of such tripe that we will vomit?
"The Iranians are just as sensible and levelheaded as anyone else. Don't buy the propaganda that they are all a bunch of crazies. They've been around a lot longer than we have. I would trust them with nuclear weapons as much as – perhaps even a hair more than – I trust Bush. Americans must stop allowing politicians and propagandists to scare them into reckless behavior."
Sure they are. Their president wants to wipe Israel off the map and declares that the Holocaust did not happen. That is sensible and levelheaded.[/]b Since he is only the spokesman for the clerics, the real power in Iran we can conclude that the leaders of Iran are sensible and levelheaded. -
Mr. Reese is referring to Iranians in general, not the Iranian president in particular, in that paragraph, OR.
-
-
Actually, Charley Reese is extremely conservative. But maybe to you anyone who criticizes Emperor, I mean President, Bush is a left wing nut regardless of their policy views.
-
-
He is not extremely conservative. I am and I recognize like minded individuals, and he's not one.
He is a train wreck, because people view him the way you do Ken. -
Anyone who thinks that Charley Reese is a Leftist is ignorant of who Charley Reese is. Let me help such people overcome their ignorance about him:
"Charley Reese makes his case in clear, concise prose.
"It's not important to me if people agree or disagree with my point of view," he says. "What I hope my column does is provoke people into thinking about issues, about the world, and their place in it."
Reese, a conservative columnist, does not mince words. In his column, which King Features Syndicate distributes three times a week to more than 150 newspapers, he does not hesitate to take a stand and back it up to the end.
Charley Reese was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Washington, Ga. He was raised there, in eastern Texas and northwest Florida. By the time he was 19, he had worked as a janitor, printer, cub reporter, civil servant and caption writer for Plant News Pictures, Ltd. in London.
In 1955, he began his career at the Pensacola News in Florida as a cub reporter. For the next 10 years, he worked at various newspapers, honing his craft by reporting everything from sports to politics. Between 1969 and 1971, he worked as a campaign staffer for gubernatorial, senatorial and congressional races in several states. He joined The Orlando Sentinel in 1971 as assistant metro editor. He later became assistant to the publisher, then columnist and editorial board member. He has traveled to Europe and the Middle East on assignments, all the while maintaining his distinctly American style of journalism.
Reese served two years of active duty in the Army and received an honorary doctorate from Webber College in Florida. He has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and voted the best columnist in Florida by both the Florida Press Association and the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors. He is the author of four books, including Great Gods of the Potomac, and was the ghost writer of The Eleventh Hour by Gen. Lewis Walt.
An American foundation commissioned Reese to write a study of the Swiss national defense system."

Bush bootlickers really need to learn to deal with the reality that not everyone who is a conservative agrees with President Bush on everything like Bush bootlickers do and that disagreeing with President Bush, or even Bush bootlickers, does not mean that one is not a conservative. -
The term Bush bootlickers seems quite harsh and radical - like something Michael Moore would use.
Bushbot or Bush Kool-Aid drinker seem to be kinder euphemisms. After all, he is our President. -
How about "independent-thinking-challenged supporters of President Bush"? ;)
-
So, Ken, is it Bush-bootlicking of me to ask what those 300 nuclear sites, you told us about, are for in Iran? X-ray machines? For their nuclear power program?
-
Yeah FTR... It is Bush-bootlicking to consider evidence from the way Iran is now run. Christians and Jews are ruthlessly persecuted. Individual freedoms are virtually non-existent. Huge prisons house people who are considered threats to the Mullahs. Families sometimes disappear.
Then consider the external evidence, they have long been sworn enemies of Israel and consider us an enemy as well. This particular brand of Islam doesn't teach that enemies should be tolerated or that peace should be made with them... it teaches that enemies must be dominated or destroyed. What else besides our friendship with Israel does Iran hate? Freedom of conscience, Christianity, women's rights, and virtually every individual right we hold dear.
So how exactly are we supposed to proceed with them?
BTW, I met an 29 year old Iranian woman in Switzerland last year. She disapproved of our action in Iraq... but couldn't give a reason since she wanted Saddam gone. She also thought the US should remove the mullahs... but also suggested we would be hated just as badly if we did. The long and the short of it is that it goes much deeper than the leadership Ken suggests. -
We will be in Iran before the end of the year.

Yep. Much less blood and treasury would be spent if we just carpet bombed.

Anyone who states:
"The Iranians are just as sensible and levelheaded as anyone else. Don't buy the propaganda that they are all a bunch of crazies. They've been around a lot longer than we have. I would trust them with nuclear weapons as much as – perhaps even a hair more than – I trust Bush. Americans must stop allowing politicians and propagandists to scare them into reckless behavior."
is a left wing nut with the same mentality as James Carville or that punk Begala, or better yet Kennedy , Kerry, Schumer, or Turbin Durbin. -

This time, so far, we have support from several big-time countries. We still can't get China & Russia behind it, but to me, the problems in their own coutries make our problems look silly. Whos needs them ? The U.N. will be begging for something to take attention away from several scandals they are now mired in. We can count them in. This will be different. This nut in Iran has forced the whole world to take a serious look at Islamofacism.

LE,
Yep. Much less blood and treasury would be spent if we just carpet bombed.
Hey, maybe you're onto something. -
