Only a tiny minority. The minority does not dictate doctrine to the majority.

Also, what do you say to those like John Shelby Spong who believe the entire bible figurative? Resurrection, you name it. All figurative. What would you offer him? -
So it appears you're saying you would have embraced geocentrism also, being that it was mainstream. -

Colossians 3:22 … Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything....
1 Peter 2:18 … Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.
He was big on the subjugation of women,
Colossians 3:18–19 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord."Dr. John Lightfoot, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and one of the most eminent Hebrew scholars of his time, declared, as the result of his most profound and exhaustive study of the Scriptures, that "heaven and earth, centre and circumference, were created all together, in the same instant, and clouds full of water," and that "this work took place and man was created by the Trinity on October 23, 4004 B. C., at nine o'clock in the morning."" A History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom. Andrew Dickson White, 1874.

These were all majority views somewhere... and sometime....
And these views were changed by those who were able to think critically.

I see. You not only reject Genesis, but Paul's writings as well. Of course Paul never endorsed American race-based kidnap slavery, but that's beside the point. I think you've illustrated the real point. -

Evolution has many problems and so does millions and millions of years, although both doctrines are in the majority. Norman Geisler also believes in an old earth--smart as he is, he is not the leading intellect of his generation. -
RobI see that I failed. :Frown

I think you guys missed my point. I was responding to @TCassidy 's post that belief in dragons (the fire breathing variety) was the majority view.
But on further review, it looks like the dragon fight was a later, 11th century addition, well after his canonization in 494 AD. So I withdraw my example.

Sending kids to study the humanities in college is always a stupid idea unless you're a rich connected liberal.
You should always look at the applicable programs they are studying - the sciences, engineering, business, art, architecture, etc. -
I find it funny how American conservatives regularly condemn the humanities. Reminds me, ironically, of the Soviet Union, who pushed STEM as a means to improve economic output. Access to majors like history or philosophy was tightly controlled, as it could lead to aberrant, anti-party thought. -
